Wheaties, first Indians and a surprise from 1844

I finally got some of the crud off the coins I found at my sister-in-laws house, so here is the story and the pictures. I finally got permission to hunt my sister-in-laws yard, an 1860's farm house. I started out by hunting under some huge trees. The first thing I found was a coin from the...

Found my first indian heads, but need advice on how to clean them.

I got permission to hunt my sister-in-laws yard and went today. I have to say this has been the best day yet detecting. I found a handful of wheaties, 5 indian heads, a merc dime and a 1844 Victoria Silver Crown (28 grams of silver). I want to post pictures but want to do before and afters...

Alright all you clever people I need help figuring this out.

Went detecting yesterday at a park and found a couple of interesting items. I need help identifying one of them. I found the button in the picture, has the number 11 in the front and a small square peg on the back. It is alittle smaller than a dime. Any ideas anyone. I also found this little...

    Iffy signal produces terrific results!!!

So being laid up from work with my arm in a cast has afforded me opportunities to go digging, so I go. Well this one-armed bandit scored pretty cool yesterday. I went to work with my wife, she works at our old church, and hunted the large field out back. The field has two ball diamonds and is...

For those of you that turn your nose up at detecting schoolyards, look at what I found.

Went detecting with a friend today, his first time. We went to a school I have detected at before, knew it would give up some goodies and wanted him to find some. I got the find of the day with this coin. It is a 1813 1 Reale silver coin from Mexico. Some kid must have brought it for show...

Went water hunting with Mike and Eric, this is the haul

Had a heat wave today, got up to the mid 30's; so Mike, Eric and I went water hunting. I found the usual suspects of clad, trash and doodads, but had some keepers as well. The money clip was pretty crudded up, but when cleaned I discovered it had a fish and line design on it. The lumps of...

Steve in So AZ, heard about your record rain fall....

I had a nice breakfast with my wife this morning and read this in the paper, thought it was funny and made me think of you. " I'm told that the Western desert of Chile probably ranks as the driest place on the planet. Certain regions of Arizona, however, are strong contenders. Once a visitor...

    Saturday's water finds

Had the indescribable pleasure of going detecting with my good buddy Mike on Saturday. Water was mighty chilly but the waders were up to the task. Found the usual suspects in the clad catergory with a sneaky wheatie thrown in for good measure. Mike nailed down the Buffalo and a silver Rosie...

Is it spring yet! Now I remember why I don't like snow.

Just finished shoveling the driveway. 3' drifts across most of it. Get to the road and there is 8" waiting there. Not sure if I will make it out for work. Is it spring yet?

    Beach hunt from yesterday.

So I went with my favorite mermaid, the kids call her mom, and hunt on a beach for almost 9 hours. The necklace and attached pendant are a beach find, both are sterling silver. The other pendant is a water find and is not stamped. Found almost enough clad to repay the 5$ parking fee. A few...

    Thursday night water hunt

Went to a new spot last night and hunted in the water. The first picture is the good stuff. I also had the standard load of bottle caps, rusted nails, broken glass, and other debris. The second picture is the rings after cleaning. One is sterling silver and the toe ring is stamped PJ inside...

New camera, so heres an update of rings I have found

We finally replaced our old and ailing digital camera, so I thought I would give it a spin and show some of the rings I have found this month. The picture of the gold and the silver rings are water finds. The gold ring is 10k, ruby stone and 6 diamonds. I have to have a jeweler look at it to...

Adventures this weekend with my bestest friend!!!

Okay, Bethany is 18 and Ian is 14, time for the missus and I to vacate the premises for the weekend. First time leaving the kids alone for an overnighter, but you can't win if you don't try. So Saturday we departed, worry etched on my face, sly little grins on theirs. We headed west in search...

Okay, there is new people and veterans posting here, so let's pick this collective brain trust. How do you clean your clad and memorials?

I have been taught to use a rock tumbler and fish gravel with soapy water. Cleaning memorials (pennies) seperately from the clad. Any other suggestions, tips or comments. Time to share the wealth of knowledge out there.

Great weather, even better company and one cool find!!

Went water hunting with Mike this morning, he posted his finds already. Lucky dog got eight wheaties, still don't know how he does it. He bailed after awhile and I continued on for some time. My take for the day was handful of clad, about thirty coins. A marble and a neat token. It is a...

    Year End Totals

I know, I know, it really isn't the end of the year. But I don't do so well in the cold, used to work for a lumber yard and got frost bite in the hands, they get real cold real easy. We cleaned and packed away the machines and dream of the warm spring days to come and signal the beginning of...
