Long hunt today - got what I wanted

Spent about 6+ hours hunting today with tnet forum member bradgny. I've been wanting to find a nice merc and finally got one. Found 96 coins ('45 merc, '43 nickel, 8 wheats). Yesterdays nut is also included - found a buffalo nickel. Thanks for looking, James

Looking for old coins in the water

Is it worth it to specifically look for old silver/copper etc. coins in the salt or fresh water? I ask because the only merc I've found (salt water beach after storm) was black and nearly completely worn down. Also a buffalo nickel found in a lake was pretty rough. Are coins found in water...

Last night was a good one

Hit a school just down the street from my house. Found the silver ring. Last night traveled to some historic area and found the 1934 buffalo nickel next to a very thick tree about 3 inches deep. Then in the next half hour picked up the 1816 large cent and the 1787 fugio cent. About an hour...

SE flickering screen / line artifacts / mist on inside screen

I can live with the line artifacts. I hear it happens. Mist could be going from warm room to 20f. out? Last night for the first time I noticed the screen flickering a little (backlight on/battery charged). Any info? Thanks, James

Which small coil should I get for my SE....I'm ready to buy

I went to a very old abandoned train station. It may have never been searched. Not sure because of several inches of snow and my 10" coil. What approx 5" coil would you recommend. I'd like to find a used one if I can or something under $150 new. Wouldn't a 5" x 10" still give me trouble...

Slight differences between gold / pulltabs / foil

I've been digging lots of trash lately with little reward. Is there a way to reduce trash digging even if it means losing some of the gold? Will most shallower gold rings give off clean, crisp signals and much foil give off "unstable" signals? I'm using the SE & live in a very old town with much...

    Frozen ground

It's been feeling like mid January in New England lately. Any advice on digging frozen ground at ball fields, parks, & beaches (easier)? I'll stick to shallow low tones if I have to. A pic from yesterdays hunt. Sand wasn't too bad using a small metal shovel. Millions of small & medium stones...

Noel + Cape Cod = GOLD & SILVER

Hunted for a few hours along the eroded dunes shown. Got old 1938+ coins. A few silver dimes and a few wheaties. Got a signal I wasn't excited about and this nice wedding band (585 ag - I assume 14k) shows up in my scoop. There is a woman's name and wedding date inscribed (possibly returnable)...

    Found my first GOLD ever

Went to a local spot on Cape Cod today with my Explorer SE. A mill from the 1600's. Spotted this 14k ring with my eyes laying in the gravel in the water. Found about 30 coins. Targets everywhere, going back soon.

    Just ordered an SE :jump:

Hi, My first real post here. Just bought an SE from a fellow forum member. Should be a nice upgrade from the BH Discovery 1100. Tomorrow I order 16 1/2" coil  I'll be hunting Cape Cod for awhile and plan to hit south eastern Florida after Thanksgiving. Will post my finds. I'm shooting...
