06/30 yard hunting

I'm a little late on this post but I've been very busy with work lately. I've barely had time to clean finds, let alone post anything. This last hunt was kinda bleak in the finds department. We suffered through the heat and bone dry ground for hours with little to show. We reverted back to an "old faithful" town that has treated us both very well in the past but finding unhunted property (by us) is getting harder and harder their. I am reminded why I love yard hunted so much though. I am truly amazed by all the people we meet. Most are very gracious, helpful, interesting, and quite entertaining. We joke that we should run for city council of this small town because we can drive down every street and tell ya who lives where (by name), a bit about them, and what was found there. The people we meet are truly amazing and the finds are secondary. I was just barely able to eek out silver with a 64' rosie but was quite happy with this unlisted Iowa trade token. I sure hope this heat breaks soon and we get some moisture in the ground so we can hunt more comfortably. Thanks, and I hope everyone gets out to hunt soon. JJ

Nice find on the Harlan, IA, token JJ.............I always love finding tokens...........you are right that the Wayside Inn token is not listed in Gary Henderson's token book, but it is listed in his latest supplement.......maybe you submitted it to him..........anyway, GREAT find!!! Hawkeye Jim.

Here's the listing in the supplement:

WAYSIDE INN / G. W. R. / HARLAN, IA.
440 $1 31 A R 5D Good For / $100 / In Trade

Thanks for the replies fellas. Hawkeye Jim, thanks for the info. I did receive the updates late last evening. Gary Henderson was in town from NM visiting relatives for the 4th and stopped by my place for a visit last evening. I got a copy of the updates and found out two more like mine surfaced on flea bay a short while ago. It was very cool to meet him, super nice guy.

I've never met Gary, but I'd like to some day.........just email correspondence........do you know how much the tokens went for??? Jim

It's funny you ask that Jim. I do. All I can tell you is that Gary won the auction (lot of 2) a few months ago, then did a very good deed. Me finding this one dropped the rarity a notch (3rd known). So now the update is outdated. I learned all this last night.

Nice token! Our ground here in NE OH is bone dry too, even though we had some rain recently. Hope you get some rain soon. HH

Thanks for the replies guys. Jim, sorry for the vague info. Some cat's are better left in the bag out of respect for others. ;) JJ
