This is pretty close to the best day of hunting I've had in a long while in terms of quantity and quality. We headed back to the same town as my last post (07/14 yard hunting) and refocused on the same area. We hunted a total of five properties today with permission. Two of them were a complete bust. The third turned up a sterling ring very shallow. The forth home produced the 28 standing lib quarter in the back yard, (4 doors down from the house that produced well last time). We were nearing the end of the day with little time left today when we got permission at our last house, (2 doors down from last hunt's best yard). It was similar in size, age and yard layout to the other great property. That is when the all out free-for-all began. This place was turn of the century and as virgin as you will find a yard. This yard ended up producing 6 silver between us, 2 buffs, 2 injuns and a second ring. I did ding one of the barbers but that was due to bad karma. Greg called me over to check out the barber dime he just dug. I walked all the way across the yard to check it out. His eyes aren't the best when it comes to looking at dirty coins so I took a look. "Sorry man, not a barber. It's a merc. Good find anyway!" I then literally took one step back towards the area I was hunting when I got that sweet deep silver sound, (three feet from his merc plug.) I dug about 7 or 8 inches for a barber dime. He was not a happy camper. "You found that in MY SPOT!"
I was afraid to turn my back to him as I know how good he is with a Lesche. He had a good laugh that I dinged it and blamed it on bad karma. Anyhow, here are the pics from the hunt. The group shot on the bumper is all of our keepers combined and my finds below cleaned up. I don't know the dates on his finds as he hasn't sent me the pics yet. I will update this post when he sends them. I couldn't crack the 1800's today but we had a BLAST in the early 20th century. Thanks, and I hope you can all get out to dig soon. JJ
