Went to Regional Park in town to try to find some goodies. This particular area is used for swimming and PWC riding in the summer time.I was going to walk along the waterline and detect using the 11" DD coil, which worked fine for about 15 minutes. That's how long it took before I decided to try to detect in the water itself in a shallow area, to see if I would get any hits. That's when I discovered that MY coil isn't waterproof. So after finding only 2 targets on dry ground, I shorted out my big coil. Sooooooo I spent the rest of the day (5 hrs) detecting with the 5 inch coil. Didn't really cover the ground I wanted to today, but you have to play the cards you are dealt. (When I got home, I drained the water out of the access hatch and dried the circuit board on the big coil, it works fine. I will waterproof it myself before attempting that again.) So anyway, started the day at 23 degrees and ended it at 25. That wind off the lake made it feel much colder I promise. What can I say...I REALLY like metal detecting!

I was hoping for a ring... or two, but no dice. Don't think this area is old enough for silver coins so I wasn't expecting any. Oldest find today was 1960, 1961 and three 1969 pennies. Surface finds were 4 zinc pennies and 1 nickel. Because I was trying for rings, I dug a lot of aluminum today. Even with digging only the most stable targets on the VID, I only found 2 other nickels. But all in all, a good day. Got out of the house and am now $3.15 closer to investing in my next detector, what ever that may be when the time comes. Well, this is my last hunt till my next days off. Friday I have to get all responsible and go back to work. Looks like I'll be going to Cincinnati to catch my boat, and then ride where-ever for the next 28 days. You guys be sure to leave some goodies in the ground for me if you don't mind.

Happy Hunting and good luck to those who can get out there.
