10.25 MAG.COIL PIONEER HELP?

I put a 10.25 mag coil on the wifes pioneer and shes not liking it?says she cant pinpoint with it and it is way to noisy.can someone help me with this

Hi Silvereagle,

I can't help you with the noise part, unless it is not plugged in tightly or the sensitivity is up too high, but the pinpointing is just a long learning curve. I have used the 10.25" coil for six months or so now and love it. I use it on both a Fast Tracker and Tracker IV. It took me a LOT of time to try to get the pinpointing thing down, and I am still not 100% right (especially on smaller and deeper items). I am sure that you machine reads differently than mine, but I find that with both Trackers, most items that I find are not in the center of the coil but towards the front of the inside "coil".

The way that I found the easiest was to pinpoint a find with the 8" coil (or even better, the 4" coil if you have one), drop a plastic poker chip at the approximate spot and then put on the 10.25" coil and give it a sweep to see how and where it reads the best and go from there.

PM or email me if I can be of any help.

Doug

I have a 10.5" also, Yes. It's a little tricky getting used to a larger coil.
What I did was to take coins and different pieces of metal and lay them out on the lawn. I laid coins flat, stuck them in the dirt a little with the edge up and so on. The I move the 10.5" around and since I was able to see the metal, I could listen to the tones and now I can pinpoint objects within 1/2 and inch.

Happy hunting.

When I hunt playgrounds I mount the large coil on the stem and use the 4" freehand. I just pull the coil plug out and swap over. It might be wise to power down during the swap, but I don't bother on my Time Ranger.

I just scan with the 4" coil in one hand like I'm smoothing concrete. Once I clean out an area, I swap back to the main coil and go back to swinging.

I put my 4" coil on a length of dowel rod w/ the cord taped along the side. I can plug it in & sweep around while leaving the other coil on the machine. I sweep the 4" around when I need it using the dowel as a handle sorta like a wand.... Length is your choice.. Too long & you lose convienience, too short & it becomes awkward to sweep around.. I slide it in a loop on my pouch to carry. DOC
