10.5" DD coil depth

What kind of real ground depth are most of you getting on coins with the 10.5" round DD coil? Also which frequency coil are you using.

It does very well in depth for a DD coil, I really like it but, I'm not going to try and give you exact depth because it depends on variables of the soil, it does go deep. HH, Mike

Just took my 705 out with the 7.5 kHz 10.5" for the first time this morning on the beach. I was very happy. Hit targets on the sand surface down to about 10 to 12 " or so, the deepest a rusty bottle cap that I predicted to be one, but I wanted to get a feel for the setup for target ID
and depth. Deeper targets are hard to quantify after 2 or 3 scoops in the sand, I feel, because sometimes the target falls down into the deepest part of the hole from the sides, especially ones that are hard to get an accurate pin-point.Deepest clad was a dime about 6". Great setup for the beach as it ID's very well with audio, especially high conductive iron. It is going to complement my E-Trac very well.

I have used the 7.5khz 10.5 inch dd coil on my previous Xterras and found the depth to be considerably deeper than the stock 9 inch medium frequency coil. But, I have very mineralised soil and this is where the dd coils are at an advantage over concentrics. In mild ground the 3khz and the 7.5khz concentric coils will probably outperform the dd's in the depth department. Also, for a person just starting out detecting, the concentric coils are easier to pinpoint with. I can't give an absolute depth, but I can only tell you how deep I dig coins. I have dug many coins in the 7 to 8 inch range with the medium frequency dd coil. Will it go deeper, probably? R.L.

I've gotten bullets & buttons down to 12" in my med hot ground in Missouri. I have both freqs of 10.5DD and to be honest, I really can't tell the difference bewteen the two.

Like Morelic55 I use the 10.5 DD MF coil. The area I hunt is highly mineralized and that's where the DD coil works very well. I have recovered bullets to 12"+. I also use this coil on the beaches of NC and it does a good job. This past hunting season I recovered 51 .69 cal musket balls using this coil. This spring I'm going to swing the 5X10 DD HF coil and the 9" stock MF coil over the same area and compare the results.
