10x14DD excellerator....got it today

Old Katz

New member
The 10x14DD excellerator came today. Dispite the steady drizzel
I took it out to a park to test it out. I found that because its so big
it wants to change its position on the detector, but I tightened the
plastic connectors really tight and parcticed pinpointing.Trying to pinpoint off the tip
of the coil was futile. I ended up calling Garrett and talking to a technition.
He gave me the following directions.

When you get the target, pinpoint by raising the coil up as high as you can
from the ground. Just as the signal begins to fade, hold it there and move
the coil front and back and side ways right and left until you hear it where its
the loudist. Keep your eye on that spot. It should be right about in the middle.

I took the coil back to the park and did it as he instructed. It DOES work. It took
some practice but I was able to dig some targets. There were no deep targets
at the field. There were some odds and ends along with some crushed
pop cans about three to four inches down, but there were exactly where the
coil SAID they were.

Besides the pop cans I found some small change, an iron nut and a lighter
that was absolutely no good.. The point is though that with some practice
anyone can pinpoint with this monster coil.

I can't wait to take it out into some plowed fields where some old
buildings used to be.

For anyone interested I found this litttle LED light about two inches
long at the Dollar Tree store. I've used it at night and it gives off just enough
light to see the MD display and to see the target in the hold your digging. It doesn't attract
any undue attention. Its only a dollar but I think they are at the dollar store for a reason.
You might try to find them at an Auto parts store where I originally saw them.

If you wear a ball cap, you can buy one with three leds that clips to the bill of your hat. Very handy, plenty bright, and only weighs about two ounces. Less than five bucks at Wal Mart and it shines right where you're looking. I've done 4-5 night hunts with mine for about 10-12 hours and the original batteries are still going strong. Take it off when not detecting. Mine got confused with a tiny video camera and a clerk got a bit weird about the incident.

Glad ya got it :) Its a great coil. Found my first ring ever with it yesterday!! Pin pointing off the front was very easy for me just find center draw back till sound gone and bam right there. But glad you got a way that works for ya.

Enjoy.

Maybe I don't understand what you mean by pinpointing off the front.
I tried that and no success. Thats why I called Garrett. By lifting the coil up until
the signal fades, until you can just barely hear it it ends up right over the target.
It worked for me anyway, but if theres an eaiser way I'm all ears. I never had any trouble
with the 6x9 at all but I'll try it your way again:)-)

I use those dollar store lights with the flexible shafts on them and clamp
them to my armband, and pointing at the control head. It lights up the
screen, but also shines enough above it to light up the ground I'm hunting.
Works great. I've used two at once one time. Really bright.

This help ya at all? Just made it for ya.
