1266x

Hello fellas. I have hunted with this old guy a few times that uses a 1266x with a hothead 12 inch coil. I use a explorer XS and a CZ6a. I have also used a CZ70. This old guy has pulled 15 inch coins from places i could not get a signal from. Also he gets a lot of quaters and halves. He clams he got a barber half at 20 inches, and i believe him. I have tried the 15 inch wot on the XS, and the 10 inch coil on the CZ6a. I have never got a coin even close to this depth. I know this guy has been detecting a long time, but i am starting to wonder if he has a deeper machine. Anyone have any experience with this machine? Is the 1270 as deep as the 1266x?

What types of coins is he pulling out at 15"? Are you using a tape measure to determine what the depth really is? Regardless he is getting coins deeper than you. Find out what mode he is searching in. He may be using a different setting than you. In all metal my 1270 will easily get dimes at 12-13 inches with the 10.5 inch coil, but when in disc mode it cuts that to about 10-11". Now thats an air test not in the soil. My soil is so bad that when I put a coin on the top of the soil the iron partially discriminates the coin and I lose 4-5 inches. In good soil coin detection depth is increased. Some say that the 1270 and the 1266 are the deepest machines ever, I know my 1270 goes deeper than a Garrett 2500GTA in a controlled environment. The only way to really tell is to make a controlled environment and test both detectors at the same settings and if the 1266 is still deeper, then the proof is in the pudding, there's your answer. Sorry to ramble but there are so many variables just remember "controlled environment".

I watched him pull a worn standing liberty quarter at least inches. I put my vibraprobe 460 in the hole and it fell in way over the handle. The coin did not fall in from the side. I dont know what mode he is hunting in, i know nothing about the 1266. I have noticed he doesnt get dimes this deep. I have dug dug coins this deep, but only on one type of place. freshwater sandy beaches. I fact i can do this regularly. But i cant do it inland. I am not saying that i dont get depth inland. I have dug wheat pennies at a measured 12 inches. But these wheats had a large green halo that was visable. I have never got a dime this deep. my max depth on a dime was 10 inches on a seated. I have only got this deep on a dime once. This guy with the 1266x has been detecting for many years, he believes the 1266 is the deepest machine ever, and i cannot argue.

I always said the 1266 may be the deepest on the planet..Remember this unit has been out for many years and with its noisy snap, crackle and pop it takes time to pick out the good from the bad..It may be indeed deeper in the hands of an old timer that has learned its language, but a CZ or Explorer is deep in its own right and with a seasoned detectorist will go as deep as any. I could not take all the noise but price wise the 1266 sure delivers compared to other units costing much more..As far as the 1270 being as deep someone would have to show me that.

I have a Explore11 with a 14" coil.I have gotten coins at 12" to 14".the coil helps with depth.Of coures using the advance mode on the detector helps. If you have C$ you might think of buying a 10" COIL.I also have a c$.If depth is what want, then 10"coil will help. You still have to set the discIfrimation, sens, threshold. If you do have a 10" coil try it against your freinds. Even if you only get a faint thud you may want to dig.Iffy sounds are what you will listening for(checking the numbers for positive readings verses negative reading)if the are deeper on pinpoint.

Stetson hat dont make you a cowboy <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)"> Maybe you are not taking into consideration the old boy's experience ? Good luck, steve in so az
