I just started water detecting and dont know what to use.
What do you use to seal the battery compartment on the 1280-X detector.

seal the battery compartment?
just use petro jelly or divers silicone
doesn't require much, make sure it is clean of any sand though

Thanks Pro Tech. I installed new batteries and did not know what to seal the cover with.

Hi Joe.
I don't know if Steve has a 1280-X. I will be moving to Tucson in two more weeks And I plan to use it out there. I also have a MXT.

if you read the manual it says NOT to use anything...but for 10 years iv used Plummers Silicone Grease ,you can buy it at Lowes $3

I have the same problem will get the silicone. Mine works great in brackish and fresh water, bet not very well in salt.
