Hello Everyone!!
Detecting for the deeper coinage is getting better and better now that we got a good dumping of rain in our area this past week. The ground is easy to dig in, and the "deepie" signals are just popping up everywhere in spots I thought were cleaned out. I went back to a park that I found over 90 silvers early last year, hoping to just get a few more that I had missed. Of those 90 or so silvers, about 10 of them were barber dimes, yet not one barber quarter. I was pretty stoked to find the barber quarter there last week. The quarter was next to a chunk of falsing iron, at around 8". I almost gave up on it, because I heard the nulling of the iron with my X1 probe near the bottom of my plug, but I also heard a repeatable signal. I dug out two more handfuls of dirt and thats when I saw a thin, very gray (oxidized) quarter. My first from this park. Shortly after, I found two early mercs, along with a semi-key '15S wheatie. It was a great day for finding those older coins. I went back to the same area a couple of days later, and managed to find 3 more silvers, along with about 20 more wheaties.
A couple of days ago, I met my two hunting buddies, Mike(ratman), and Curt(Bibleman) at a park we've been pounding for the past month or so. This park has been producing very well for all of us. With the ground very soft from the previous rains, the signals were everywhere. I couldn't believe how much of a difference this made. In areas of the park we thought we completely hunted out, we dug about 12 silvers, along with over 50 wheaties between the three of us on Monday. I managed 6 silvers and 30 wheats, including a nice little silver locket, which was next to an older plug. It's been a great week of hunting, and I'm anxious to try a few more of my past productive parks to see if the damp ground will reveal previously undetectable targets!!
I would like to wish everyone a Happy and Healthy New Year!! Be Safe, and detect as much as you can!!
