Hello Garrett user.My machines reads pennies sometimes at 1c mark or the notch below the 1c mark and sometime dimes read 1c and 10c mark. Depending whether the penny is a old wheat or a zinc penny it does this 50% of the time. New dimes and silver dimes bounce around to.Quarter are right on. Has any noticed this?

Yes...and this is typical of ALL metal detectors. Soil type, oxidation, coin composition etc. (these are just some) All affect the conductivity of the target. Only under perfect conditions will the machine read all US coins accurately. The mere fact that you have noticed the reading of the older wheat cent at a different notch is a sign that you are learning your machine well. These little ideosyncrasies are good to learn and will really help you in the future to increase your probability of guessing and digging a good target.

I have seen people get frustrated and actually curse the machine in situations like this as being faulty. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Your machine is working fine :)
