1500 accessories

Nimrod

I've got 5 inches of snow on the ground so my new 1500 is still untested in the dirt. I've watched the video a few times and have been practicing all the functions with air tests to pass the time. But I got to thinking about accessories and was wondering if there are any that I should look into before spring gets here. I have the stock 9.5 inch PROformance coil, coil cover, rain cover, SunRay GI-1 probe, Gray Ghost headphones, and all the standard recovery tools. I really don't want a larger coil, but I was thinking about asking Santa for a 4.5" Scorcher coil. Any other accessories that I should be looking at adding?

Sounds like you're pretty well fixed Nimmy. If you feel you need another coil the Sniper would be good as it's a killer in trash and up close to metal objects like playground equipment. But it doesn't image. We would all like a small imaging coil but it's tough getting one transmitter and two receivers into that tiny space. Hope you get a chance to get out before Spring.

Uncle Willy - This may be a stupid question, but please help me understand something here. When you-all (yes I'm from Texas) mention "4.5 scorcher coil" or "sniper coil" I assume you are talking about the same coil. The reason I ask is because I'm going down to my nearest detector sales store in a few days to buy the new pro-pointer and the 4.5 coil for my 1500. I've done business with them before and I'm sure they can steer me in the right direction but I want to be sure before I go. I have an old catalog from them that lists a 4.5 GTI NON-IMAGING COIL. Is this the only 4.5 coil garrett makes for the 1500?
Also, I know it is non-imaging but will it show depth same as the standard coil?
Thanks - Al

I'd go for the sniper coil. It is also hany to have a second lower rod assembly and keep the coil mounted on it permanantly. I use my 4.5 incher several times a month in trashy areas and around play equipment. I like to use a real good set of kneepads when detecting. I only use one on my right knee most of the time.

Do you have a gigantic box for all the coins and jewelry you are going to find? I use all sorts of tackle organizers and craft boxes to organize mine. It adds up very quickly especially with a great detector like a 1500.

Other items I use all the time but not required are a digital scale accurate down to a tenth of a gram, a rock tumbler for cleaning clad coins, and a digital camera which you must own anyway.

PS What you really need is a trip to someplace warm! I'd be going crazy waiting.

You are right on all accounts. The 4.5 inch scorcher is too small to contain the necessary extra coils to allow for imaging. Sniper is a generic term we use here to describe smaller coils. I think the 4.5 inch coil for the 150 and the 250 are actually named Sniper so be careful. What you want is 4.5 inch Scorcher (non-imaging) coil for the 1500/2500.

I am not speaking for UW but he answered this question for me a year ago so I pass on what the master has taught me.

Thanks for all the tips. And yes, I plan on hitting a few schools while I am down in Florida. :D

I think the 4.5" coil is the better choice. The stock coil gets great depth! Other then that, looks like you have everything you need

Why is that? I just don't understand that part of the world back there with parks and schools being off limits whereas everything out here is wide open.

I recall reading something (maybe from you) about a lot of fenced in school yards in Fla. but I recall seeing many that weren't last time I was there. I haven't detected in Fla. in years.
