1700's in my back yard

So far I have found 6 coins from the 1700's around a small hill in my back yard in southern NY near the NJ border. By mapping the nails in the area I can surmise that there was a building of some sort on top of the hill. There are short nails around the hill, and long nails on top. Short I would think are from horseshoes, and long are from structure. All the coins were found between 20 and 75 feet from the top of the hill, about 6-8" deep. Nothing but nails at the top.

I think it's fascinating to find this stuff. I've found other things in the area, but they are probably near impossible to date... Things like small buckles, unmarked buttons and a key... Still very satisfying.

Here's the coins so far:

This was found with a White's Goldmaster II. From what I hear and read, a great machine, but not the best equipment for this particular job. I am saving up for a new machine that is more suitable for coins, but it's still a blast!

As a bonus, my son enjoys MDing as well. He's saving his money for a detector too! :-D

I love this game.

Wow.. Nice! Have you identified everything? Are those large round pieces on top coins or buttons? I have three buttons the same size as the coins that look like silver from this site. Is that a shoehorn? I like finding personal items. Really get a feel for the people that were there.

As for the nails, once my son gets a detector of his own I am going to give him a nickle a nail. Place will be clean in no time!:twodetecting:
