1758 Isle of Man Penny found in Montana with 705

I found this yesterday with my X-terra705 in Whitefish, MT. Another guy on here found out some history on it and here it is.

Isle of Man penny, one of only 60,000 struck in 1758 for James Murray, second Duke of Atholl, the new owner of the island. Obverse: crowned "AD" monogram (Atholl Dux) over the date. Reverse: Triskeles with large caps of armour on the knees: "QUOCUNQUE JECERIS STABIT" (which ever way you throw it, it will stand). Reasonable collectable condition for type as these are struck on soft copper flans which were liable to wear down quickly. Diameter 29mm Weight 10.3g.

this is the oldest coin I have ever found in my life and it is odd to find a coin country between Ireland and United kingdom in the Sea of Ireland. The history of the Isle of Man dates back to 6500 B.C. It is country that is somewhat independant and somewhat dependant on U.K.

Congrats Great Find! Now thats a once in a lifetime find in our region of the world!

Congrats on such a unique find. 1758!!! Man, that does go back there, doesn't it? Finding something like that in your neck of the woods gives me hope for the older stuff around here. For the record, some of my oldest coins found todate have had a hole in them, such as yours. I suppose if someone hadn't used it as a piece of jewelry, we might not have the opportunity to have found them. Congrats again on the great find. HH Randy

P.S. I've visited north of Flathead several times and love the area. Absolutely beautiful scenery. Being somewhat of a "flat-lander", I'd be looking around so much I'd probably forget to swing the coil!

Digger, thanks, this coin just made Minelabs finds of the month. Found a 1925 Indian head nickel today. First target I dug. Within 5 min. after starting to search.

Tough to beat the thrill of finding such an old piece. But winning the "goodies" from Minelab for making Minelab's Finds of the Month has to be icing on the cake. Congrats again on the find, as well as the "recognition" from Minelab. HH Randy

Very cool old coin.

I saw one online and it is a wreck compared to that.
