1772 Louis XV Liard copper

Found this French Liard today at the honey hill. Rang up at 12-19, 6 inches. Details not bad but dark chestnut after toothbrush. Anyone know where to get jewelers wax or any other product that will make it shine and show the detail?
Thx,
Mike

cool coin..... shine does not always = detail , in fact quite often over cleaning reduces contrast which diminishes detail.... most people soak a coin like that in olive oil a few days then scape the softened crude of with a tooth pic...if the coin has any decent value probably ought not clean at all..... nice find though... different...

For coppers with no real significance I use "coin care" it is a citrus oil based cleaner. You can get it a coin shops. It will not shine them up but is will clean that crud off with Q-tip. The citrus oil seems to condition the coin. Again if it is a key date/significance don't clean with out advice.

You can soak it in a bath of hot peroxide for a few mins. That will bring out more detail or soak it in olive oil.
