18/8?

bob nm

New member
Went out yesterday morning. Got some clad. Found a spoon says Gruber? 18/8. Not magnetic. Stainless? What does the 18/8 mean? Thanks Bob

Maybe take a spoon from your kitchen if it is stainless steel and see what kind of reading you get..

This would be a common austenitic stainless steel, such as 304 or 304L. The "L" means low carbon.
If it were "20/10" it would likely be a 316 or 316L stainless steel. The 316/L stainless also contains molybdenum to help reduce stress/corrosion cracking.
I am not a metallurgist, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night....

Bob, I found this post on the web regarding 18/8 stainless steel...:)
