18" Excelerator?
how deep does it really go?is it stable on the mxt?,tell me what you know, and where the best place to get one is.I really feel like i need one of these things (im sure my wife doesn't tho)she'll get over it,HA. thanks, OR-MDer

I have the 14" Excel coil and it is wearing me out.
I use a bigger shovel when I hunt with it because
targets are so much deeper. A small piece of scrapnel
(3-4 ounces) is easy at 15 inches. The only problem
that I have with it is the weight, it gets heavy
after an hour or so. I may consider the 12 1/2 Excel.
With the 18, I can't imagine the depth but I hope
ya have a good shovel and a strong back. These are
serious depth coils. HH RichardnTn

thanks for the reply richard,it gets me thinkin, i live on the oregon trail.it goes right through my family's wheat farm which has been tiled for almost 100 years, but when the wheat is up you can still see the trail in the way the wheat grows different in the wheel ruts of the wagons,it is amazing.anyway what i need is a coil that will go deeper than has been tilled(which is a little more than 12")the ground is easy to dig so if i have to i will get a backhoe not!just hopin to get what hasnt been tilled up over the last 100 yrs.

You might want to consider one of those harnesses that take the weight off your arm(they attach to the detectors shaft) one brand is called swingy thing.

Although I don't have the 18 inch coil, I made a bungee cord harness for my other big coils. Like you, I wasn't fond of swinging that big thing for hours on end. With this harness, the coil is virtually weighless and makes detecting with a big coil much easier. I have attached a picture of my harness on my Elite, but it will work fine on any machine. The best part is that it cost me less than $5 to make. I took a webbed belt and sewed a key ring onto the bottom of it, just off center right. (I am right handed). I also sewed a ring to a short strap that wraps around the detector rod. You will also notice in the picture that I sewed a couple rings to the top edge of the belt so I can attach another strap to act as suspenders. I bought a bungee cord and fastened a snap to each end. I snapped one end to the ring on the belt and the other end to the rod of the detector. Adjust the bungee cord length for your heigth. Although I made a clip to fasten the cord to the ring and rod, you could simply tie the cord to each if you wanted to. If you like the way it works, you can still buy the factory set up, but being a tight wad, I wanted to try to do it myself. Works well. HH

Err.. that means you have found everything that was tilled-up in the last 100 yrs? Or you just want to over look it

I have since replaced the bungee cord with more small carbiners. However, if you do a lot of up/down hill walking, you might want to keep the bungee so that you can make more adjustments in length. I also added a loop permanently attached to the waist band- reinforced with a small pc of sheet copper and used pop rivets to secure it.
Note, tho-- you can take the weight off your arm, but not the the inertia that you must overcome in both directions when swinging!
ALL of the others I have seen still put the wgt on your shoulder- which can be a real pain... Mine gives back support too!
