1800's House Still Producing

For the last few years we've had access to an old late 1800's house nearby. We've found a few indians a Barber dime a V nickel and decent handful of wheats not to mention some clad and a 3 or 4 late model silvers.

We really kind of feel like we had the place nearly hunted out because we probably have a combined couple of hundred hours between myself, our Mom and Hotrod53. It's been raining off and on over the last week including a quick shower earlier this evening. When it quit raining we decided to take our chances and see if we could find anything else. Coins have really been few and far between. I've been exclusively using the Digger coil and as of last week, our Mom now has one.

My first target of the evening was an iffy signal in the low 30's and when I dug it, I could tell that I probably had a nickel and possibly a V nickel. It just didn't feel like a buffalo and I knew that it wasn't a Jefferson. Much to my surprise it ended up being a fairly crusty 1887 V nickel. What is surprising is that I found it about 8 feet from the only other V nickel that I've found since I started detecting and both of them were with the Digger coil.

I put it on the ground after I found it and it reads as kind of a choppy 12. The first one that I found was a 42 in the ground and a 12 on top of the ground. I'm guessing the rain has helped conductivity but the surprising thing is that this was only about 3" deep and we've all been over that area nearly hundreds of times with other coils. Like always, I was going really slow with the Digger coil and at least at this site, listening for those iffy signals. The ID was bouncing a fair amount but in pinpoint mode, I would have almost bet money on it being a coin. She's not real pretty but I'll take her!!

Good job Mapper....like you we've been getting alot of rain over the last week & I'm hesitant to dig on soggy ground (other people's lawns). Tommorrow looks great & I'll be up at 5:00 to get an early start with my new Digger coil.

Goo luck fdl! You definitely have to take it slow with that coil. Depending on how long you've been using your Xterra I'd say you need to get a solid 4 or 5 hours on the Digger before you can get completely comfortable with it.

I've had some nice .finds with that coil in such a short period of time it's amazing.

2 V Nickels
2 Buffalos
1 War Nickel
1 Merc
1 Rosey
A bunch of wheats

Good score on the "V" Mapper!
Nickels are odd with that Digger coil. Finding them is part sound and part intuition.

Congrat's on finding the V.

You just never know what kind of numbers you are going to see on those old nickels. The V I found last weekend was showing numbers for a dime or a quarter with a quick flash of number 18 and it turned out to be a V nickel,,,, I do not know why that will happen, but it does.

Very nice mapper65!Nice pictures!I love v nickel's.I so want to get my hands on a 705.I ran the sov and musky.I like the new digger coil you got there.I think the eterra is a awesome sounding machine.keep up the great detecting!

My Mom went back to the site tonight and had her first good find with her new Digger coil. It's a Fraternal Order of Eagles ring. It's missing the eagle from the top and you can see "LING" from the sterling mark inside the top of the ring. So far I haven't found another on like it on eBay although there are a couple that are really close. This one has a hole in the top where the eagle would have been mounted to it and all of the ones online appear to have had the eagle glued to the top being that there is no mounting hole. I'm guessing this one is older than most based on the age of the house.

:clapping: Those Diggers just keep sniffing out the good stuff!
Congratulate "Mom" for us.

Will do! She loves finding rings and Indian heads.

She didn't know that she was getting a Digger coil so this has been a pretty good couple of weeks for her. She borrowed mine a few days before her's came in the mail and in ten minutes pulled up a silver rosey.

My brother in law has one coming this week so that will be 3 in the family and we have a friend that now has one also. I would expect at some point maybe Hotrod53 will be next on the list.

That is a nice looking house and some nice finds also. Congratulations.
