1830's Farmhouse: Hey Bulldog!

Erik in NJ

New member
This was right near the surface where a 1700's house was demolished. I thought it was just a hunk of lead when I found it, then I saw the ears and it turns out that it's a very detailed bulldog made or pewter or lead. Looks like it has had the legs cut off and part of the torso. Face has amazing detail that can't be seen in the scan. I'm not sure if it was painted or gilded or if that's just white patina from age. This thing looks old! My favorite thing from the site so far. Also found are three silver coins and 1899 IH cent as well as a very pretty sterling silver ring.....figured you're tired of looking at silver lately

That's a unique find Erik. I'm sure that old feller' could tell an amazing tale if he could speak.
I wonder what that came off of...or if it was just a little statue at one time.
As for your silver comment.....well......:bouncy:

Hi Bryce, I forgot to mention the size - it's about the size of a quarter and quite heavy. Yes, this is an interesting one for sure and I think it's one of the older finds from this site.....I pulled it just under the ground in the bulldozed area where the old house was - tough area to detect in for me as the stratigraphy is all mixed up and lot of trash now. I found the 1899 IH cent in the same general area about 1" deep, but there's definitely good stuff in there.....would like to go back with the 6 x 8 SEF instead of the Pro coil.
