Hi all - check this coin out.
My fishing buddy comes to my house and tells me that his neighbor across the road had plowed his land and while walking the just plowed earth looking for arrowheads he finds a sweet 1876 quarter just sitting on the surface. I call the neighbor and receive permission to hunt the plowed area. I call my friend JJ and he comes with me to hunt. We find a couple of CW bullets - several of which had teeth marks in them, which I will post when I get them good and cleaned up.
This area consists of about a half acre level top area steeply sloping into a ravine on the South end of the property - the whole thing only being about 2 acres in size. The owner had scraped the top portion of earth away with all of the brush and trees and pushed it into the ravine. Chisel-plowed is a better term for what it was. Tough detecting. I was working my way toward the debris pile when I get a loud slam on my Minelab. I thought for sure it was an aluminum can. I stuck my shovel in there and popped a rather large plug and sticking to the bottom of the plug was this baby.
My first thought was - I just found a Mexican peso. I could see the eagle head and part of a wing and since I had never found anything like this before I was clueless. I plucked it and turned it over and I could see the 18 and a 5 and I just let out a huge whoop! My friend JJ came scrambling down the hill - which is no small feat since he is 80+ years young, grabs the coin and says, no way did you just find that!
Yes, I just did.
It took me about 30 minutes to figure out how to post this picture so I will try and include a picture of the back of the coin.
My daughter knows how to do this stuff easily but she is 14 and has zero patience with Dad:^)

Oh yeah, I only own one detector and coil, a Minelab Explorer XS with stock coil. I also use a TinyTech probe.
