1888 Indian today

I got permission to hunt this old homesite but sorta got run off after an hour and a half. Turns out the gentlemen that lives on the land and has been there for 80 years technically isn't the property owner. He has been given right to continue to live there even though his niece inherited the property. She arrived today and asked that I leave but we did make a deal that I can hunt the property anytime she's with me. She seems to have an interest in the hobby and our families are close enough that when I explained who i was and how I received permission she ended up being okay with everything. Needless to say this place will be getting a lot of attention from me in the near future. In the time I was there my first two coin finds were an 1888 and 1882 IH and after that I stumbled into some modern clad but those two IH are a very promising sign.

That's awesome. I'm still working to get a coin that dates back to the Civil War. The 1882 I found yesterday is now my oldest but it was so toasted I didn't even bother posting a picture. The 1888 is beautiful and funny enough it was only 2 inches down in an area with a lot of roots so that's the only explanation I have for that one.

NICE FIND!! I am jealous!!! :surprised:

Living in TEXAS has its benefits.......but I do wish I could be in the NE part of our country so I could find CW artifacts.

I live near the birthplace of Texas and our first State Capital location, but we are not permitted to search these historical sites......state law.
I hope to one day get permission to hunt the adjacent private property next to a particular Texas/Mexico battle site.
Maybe one day.......maybe!

HH y'all.

I would do some modern map overlays and see if there are any public places that land on these areas including any private land owned by friends and family. http://www.texasbeyondhistory.net/forts/military.html Texas has some amazing history but for the few years I lived out there I didn't metal detect back then. I've been to the Alamo a couple times but most of my travel kept me between college station, Brenham, tomball, cypress, Houston, and Austin. Rule of thumb I found is learn a little bit about building construction (brick chimneys have to be my specially for my area, saw a brand new house wrapped around an 1850s chimney once) and don't be afraid to ask for permission to hunt and offer to donate your findings if the property owner wants them. I have yet to have that happen instead they ask to use my extra machine on the next tour. I love finding that old school house that turned into somebody's farm house for a number of years before everyone forgot about it and now it's a dilapidated pile of sticks in the woods.
