1943 South African large,1957 Rosie and cool Skeleton Key from the Original House!

Good day metal detecting, but the silver must be deeper! I found about 10 wheaties but only found one 1957 Rosie. Found and old Skeleton key that's cool and of all things a South African 1943 coin! The house on the property was about 100 years old but there was a house prior to that on the same foundation that was victim of a fire. I had greater expectations of silver with the date of the property. Maybe my gear falls short of being sufficient or it just isn't there. It was still a blessing, a family members house, coffee, fellowship and breakfast came with the hunt. I also was able to locate the neighbors property pin, he was happy!

Today's hunt came by way of the Whites Eagle Spectrum set to downloaded program. It goes deeper and picks up a gold signal at about 10 inches 850 BlueMax coil!
P.S. someone once said on the Forum for every seven wheaties you pull you will dig a silver; guess I should of stayed longer, lol! God bless and HH

Neat finds, that's what makes it all interesting. I have found the ratio 7-8 wheats to 1 silver to be my personal numbers - over the last 30 + years. Also, another important fact is the more nickels I find the more silver I find. When I get into a dig and find 3-4 nickels I slow way down and dig it all.

Did you find any recent coins? steve in so la

What does the nickel to silver ratio mean. There is no similarities unless the nickel dates fall within silver years for coins, right? Or was this just the way the cookies crumbled for you?

I like the key best. I have had years where it is more like every 10 wheats a silver would pop out. this year I am at 3.3 to 1. Way better! I'll take it.

Sounds like a real good time. Breakfast , coffee, friends and detecting and some good finds. You had a great day for sure.

Nice coins and nice keys! The nickels finds for me is that when you can detect the nickels, you need to slow down and find the better coins, but doesn't always happen, as I have found lots of nickels and other coins and not much of the better stuff, but then again, I have found silver and lots of clads including many quarters! Really depends on how often the place has been detected! I always liked finding nickels, because the other coins would come in, also! God Bless and go get the goodies! Amen! Ma

I guess nickel to silver depends on the detector but with my two detectors nickel pulltab fall in the ring or gold area. I enjoy pulling nickels because they always could be a ring! I don't mind pull tabs as much as I use to!

Guess I didn't explain right - nickels are harder to find than most coins, nothing to do with silver. With me I run my detector at a lower setting and get them. At this setting one gets more signals, thus more digs, thus more goodies. I go just on sounds, no readout. Every one has different ways of running their machine but this way for me is best. steve in so la

Hi Steve, I went by sound also and could tell if it was a nickel or a quarter but could be a dime or penny when a different sound and used the meter than, but wasn't always like that as other stuff could be the found objects instead of coins! I got used to my detector's sounds and the more I used my Whites Spectrum the more I could use it for the better! The nickels on mine came in at a low sound (best I can remember) that was different than most sounds and I knew it was a nickel most every time I dug! I have found lots of nickels but still didn't find that many rings, although I dug up one once in a while, along with silver medallions and etc. It is persistence and not giving up and being tuned in to your detector and its sounds and even what shows on the meter! I still miss detecting but I know I cannot do it anymore, so I rely on each of you to find and post all your coins and goodies for me and others to see! God Bless! Ma

Yeh, pull tabs are a nuisance, especially those used long ago and all the rusty bottle caps! I dug them once in awhile, because wasn't sure of the sounds made, but learned to recognize most of the coin sounds! On my detector, I could program in what I wanted and it worked out pretty good for me, as I got tired too easily and just to get plenty of clads at times was enough for me, although finding the rings and etc. made my day!! I had different programs for different finds and that way I didn't have to dig everything, but that is probably why I didn't find the diamonds and wedding bands that others did, but I am happy to have detected as long as I did and with what I found! God is good all the time and He was and is good to me! Amen! Ma

I got you Steve, if I feel aggressive I'll dig that way also; but there is always discrimination when you get tired of a signal every step

I find foil more a nuisance than the pull tab. The pull tab can at least be donated to a local charity that collects pull tabs!

Yes, I forgot about the foil and dug up many of them from aluminum foil pcs to bits and larger pcs of aluminum cans torn and shredded! But 'tis all in the game of detecting....always not as easy as it may seem to some people, but when they try it many don't last long and give it up! Gotta just keep at it to gain learning and knowledge of how to do it with a person's own brand of detector! God Bless! Ma

Can slaw, shredded cans people don't pick up before they mow anymore! Can slaw is a killer because if I get slaw I usually don't dig the next signal close with the same vdi! Here are poctures of the wheaties so the ratio is 10 to 1 10 wheaties to one silver! Oldest being 1934 newest is1957
