1st impression on the 11" DD for Gamma

Got a sweet deal on the classifieds & I am very happy with how the setup works.

I doubt I gained much more than an inch in air testing-but-the broom edge pattern on the DD at depth gives way more coverage than the concentric coil.

I went to a well hunted soccer field while my wife did some food shopping-so the clock was ticking.

Started off with a dime at 6-7". It was beneath my mongo plug & almost past the pro-pointers reach. So that's a easy 6+ with a good solid ID,tone & surprise-the depth reading is much more accurate. I had issues with it on the stock coil. Also-seems less prone to overload-a very good thing IMHO.

I had a slew of quarters-OK 5 almost in a row.No bottlecaps I thought to myself-yay!. Well of course after that it was cap after cap trying to disguise itself as a quarter. I quickly learned the edge pass technique I was shown by Monte-But still dug the caps to verify.I even dug a wheatie-but the front was worn almost smooth while the back had fair detail-strange.

Pinpointed off the heal. A tad strange at 1st but easy to get used to.

All in all a very good coil for the Gamma...

Edit to add: GB @ 69(loamy soil)
Disc min 22
2 tones(always)
Sens 50-90 depending on how close to the powerpoles at end of field...Did seem a bit more sensetive to EMI but that varies wildly-so not sure on that. But the depth even @ 50 was very good.

Cheers!

Keep up the diggin we need good reports :teknetics:#1

Glad to see your report. I've worked with the 11" DD on all of the models, but personally I prefer the stock coils for most uses, or the 5" DD when in trashier or more confined spots Now, the exception to that is that the 11" DD on the G2 does help it cover a bit more territory than the 5" DD and it helps in other ways. The better performance I get is with the stock 11" DD coil on the T2/T2 SE. I know, a different model class, but I really like the T2 with the 11" DD coil.

Coverage is the key more than just depth of detection with that coil.

I do get more overload with the 11" DD, but that's usually when I am working at a higher Sensitivity setting. Like you, I didn't really feel I gained all that much in the way of added depth, mainly just better coverage.

In time you'll learn to rely on a little Tip & Technique when you're plagued with bottle caps. Still, at some sites, you might want to recover some of them just to verify there's a problem with them there.

I hope you get used to it if you like it, but for me, I just pinpoint for the coils center line.

Thanks for adding the settings. I'm surprised you found 'loamy' soil and not soil or sod that was just floating! ban, we have had a lot of rain and most grassy sites I've tried to work this week were a very sloppy mess.

Keep us informed on how things go with the Gamma and 11" DD. A very impressive detector for the dollar, to be sure, but remember that although you now have the 11" DD, don't forget to work that 8" stock coil on occasion.
