Old nickels are always cool, love finding them anytime.
Does it have a big letter over Monticello, if so it has some silver in it, they minted both types that year.

What year is your nickel? I just found a 1943 P and the 'P' mint mark is over the Monticello. Found with a Compass Gold Scanner Pro. I think war nickels were minted from 1943-1945.

Looks like a 1945 alright ...but it doesn't look like silver....I have found quite a few 1945 non-silver nickels....on silver the mint marks is on the back.

Sorry I was wrong. There's a D mint mark to the right of Monticello. The date is 1942.

Yours is a Silver War nickel.

Cool then ! another wonderful find ! I guess I was wrong too on the 1945 date and how it didn't look like silver....Probably tarnished....some come out of the dirt looking like a silver color. CONGRATS on your first siler war nickel.

This coin is not silver. The S & P mint marks over Monticello are silver.
