I have permission to search a home built in 1860. This is my second time there; first time found Silver Roosevelt 2 Indians and 6 Wheats.
Went last night for 2 hours and found some nice items. First few coins were the Indians, 1882 and 1883. Found the 1900 V Nickel and a handful of Wheats. I was thinking ok now where is the old silver. Last time did manage the 1950d Roosevelt but thought with all the Indians and the V nickel must be some older silver.
I worked my way up toward the home and heard that Twang sound, but could not pinpoint as there were other iron around. So I visually pinpointed about where I heard the twang and dug in. Dug out the plug and probed and heard that twang still in the hole. Dug in some more and probed and was in the dirt. Then there she was; a 1897 Barber Dime.
Finally; was hoping for some more. A few feet away came another twang and dug in with heart beating fast hoping for more old silver. Found her Sister; 1899 Barber Dime.
Just a few inches away got a twang just below the silver quarter range. My last post this was where the Large Penny hit; could this be another, was hoping for a Barber Quarter though. After a nice plug 6 inches found the coin was deeper. Dug in more and finally about 8 inches the coin was in the plug. Broke apart and there was a large disk; it was a Large Cent!! My second in a week. However this one was so corroded no date is visible.
I still have more of this yard to search. This was a farmhouse and I plan on trying the neighboring homes as well.
Thanks for looking and Happy Hunting.
