2 months with the VISTA gold

Rivers rat

New member
Hi first of all here is my hunting ground :The River Thames UK 2000 years plus of history Human trash and treasure ......i wanted to try the Vgold for a long time BUT because i know once my machine have been used on the Thames i can only resale them at a fraction of the price i was waiting for a bargain.....so while waiting i managed to source a 5" coil(must needed) in germany the coil came but after 3 months on my desk it start to crack from everywhere and was also sold without coil cover !!!! i though about resin fatigue i contacted the seller with high resolution picture and he send me a new one for 20 euros including postagde and a coil cover!!!!!!!!!!and told me i could keep the cracking coil That was a good start:).I then found a Vgold with 2 coils for sale on a website it came in vgc condition .Now i decided to hit the spot where i have found the most artefact done redone rererredone with Deus ,Compadre G2 Silver sabre Lobo modded etc........i didn't know what to expect and to be honest i would have been surprised to find anything....

After playing with the machine to tune it right i decided to really give her hard time regarding iron contamination and i thought if this machine can find me stuff her its going to be a keeper the G2 in the past has failed despite my love for the machine itself 2 tones and off we gon

1st target a silver tiny buddha and then the festival of goodies came out day after days of use including 2 pieces of gold .

Now dont get me wrong the machine as also her limit but for that price and considering the reactivity and sensitivity to small targets and 2 tones with iron volume other manufacturer should be worried or it is maybe too late :)

Regis, your the main man when it comes to Thames Mudlarking, always thought you had been a Tesoro man with the 4'' coil, but its good that you are using the Vista range, must admit have also been looking at getting the Gold albeit more for roman/saxon sites with the Super 6 coil.

But those are some lovely finds, are they from over the Christmas period ??

Tesoros are cool but no 2 tones my lobo super tuned with snake coil 3.5X6.5 is doing well but the Vgold is easier no headache and depth and to be honest when i am on the Thames and need to be quick as the tide wait for no man......4 " are cool but lack of depth when the spot is "Clean" i got a wood ruler at 9" with the vista because of the brass hinges .The Vgold is the Tesoro who was never made ..........i wanted to have a NEL snake coil mounted on it but ........i am no expert so if someone here knows how to do the trick...........high frequency machine can't have 4" if i am correct if it was the case ................bye bye the rest............

Another Tesoro convert.......................glad to hear your having fun with your Gold.
Very nice finds, which I could find such cool stuff. Now if we could only give London, Ontario Canada 2000 years of history waving the magic wand.
I could go down and hunt the Thames, yup we have a Thames here as well.

I love searching the riverbanks in my area. Not just for the finds but even more for the tranquility and scenery.
Best find in 2015 was this little tool used by people smoking clay pipes. Don't know the English word.
Late 18th, early 19th century, and because of the ornamental fish on top most likely used by a fisherman on the river.
Using the Vista Smart, perfect machine for me.

It is called a pipe poker but also remind me a japanese tool to filet Eels.:)

Thx Rivers rat! Pipe poker it is, a logic name for what it does.
The riverbanks I search are the Rhine and Waal rivers in Holland. To far from the sea to have tidal differences, but we have differences in water levels because of weather conditions upstream in Germany. After each period of high levels of water the scenery changes, Tons of sand are moved and riverbanks damaged. Good for us because 'new' targets come in detecting range every year.
Finds range from Roman (rare) to modern (to much).

I can see you have some nice finds, I like that pin with the fish on the end , that is cool" also i can see you have some challenging gravel . but are picking some good targets out of it . WTG keep us posted

haven't found any modern eel spikes yet RR :)
You can find the strangest things on the riverbanks here, a nearly complete 19th century salmon wheel was found here in the seventies, and more recently a German WW2 'Biber' mini-submarine for one person. They used this for attacking a nearby bridge which was in allied hands, but never succeeded because of the steel nets the allied forces used to protect that bridge.
Eyeball finds ofcourse!

I ll always believe the best treasure are under water waiting to be retrieve............but harder to get .........VGold waterproof please :coastgaurd:
