I've been back to the Civil War site at Hartsville Tn 2 additional times. I spent most of my time in the area where I found a good button and other things. Both days netted 27 finds for a total of 10 hours hunting. This area has been pounded to death by just about every detector known to man over the years. I don't know however how much Deus time has been spent at the site. Out of the 27 finds only 2 were what I call clean hits. The rest were, hard to describe really. I was running mostly in 12 khz, reactivity 1, silencer -1, tracking GB, 11" coil. On coil bobbing most times in different spots I got about a half a meter on the deus. On most targets I even switched to reactivity 3 silencer -1 and the target would either disappear or get fainter, never better audio. And most targets weren't deep (between 6-8 inches). OK now for what I was seeing and my conclusions. I witnessed severely broken tones with most targets not yielding any signal when rotating around the targets while sweeping with various sweep speeds. Most targets in fact sounded closer to iron than non ferrous. The deus screen numbers would be all over the place on some and some would read 98 and 99. I can't prove this but I think the deus is seeing irregularr shaped nonferrous items better than most detectors. A lot of my finds were irregular shaped lead and really deformed bullets. Something else too for the deus users is DO NOT rely on the pinpoint function solely to dig a target. A had quite a few targets that pinpointed huge, but with the higher tone albeit broken, I dug and out pops a good 3 ringer bullet. I need to go back to this particular area with the 9" coil. I am still trying to figure out why most of the targets sounded as bad as they did. I'm thinking it was either masking or the ground mineral or maybe both. And it was surprising that reactivity 3 silencer -1 didn't seem to help with the targets. My three hunts at this site were are performed on Sat or Sunday. I have never seen anyone else detecting. This site is very well known. I'm suspecting the site has quit producing for most. And the ole Deus is still able to eak out a few. For me, a pounded relic site is where one gets to really learn the deus. I recommend new deus owners and experienced deus users to consider maybe finding a pounded relic site that in its day was producing. I found over 40 finds at this site in 3 hunts total. I dug only one nail. It was an iffy signal with a low growl flashing 98. So not bad especially when you consider how bad the audio was on several of the good finds. If the deus is squeaking a blip of a high tone and you can get it to repeat on the majority of sweeps take notice, don't walk, and dig. You may be rewarded and learn something in the process while using what I consider the best ever engineered metal detector to date. I would like to visit this site again. The 9" coil will go as well as the 11" coil. Some signal comparisons are in the future for me at the site. This may shed some more light on the deus' operation. I feel there is still much for me to learn about the Deus. Every outing seems to add "1" more building block.
