Had a great time today. Drove about a half hour to a site I know this other detector likes a lot. He has a 2500 too. He still has the white coil and when we have hunted together before I usually outpace him about 4 to 1 for finds. That said:
Today was perfect weather wise. Strangely the ground is already getting pretty dry. Gonna need some April showers. I was 28 coins from 1000 in 2009 when I started to detect. My first three targets were foreign coins. What are the odds? The 50 cent French Euro had me thinking I found my second ever gold coin. It looked shinier than it does in my picture. The other two were a Canadian Nickle then a Canadian one cent coin. It took me an hour to get coin number 1000 (a quarter) which is also pictured. I stuck it aside and took a break.
The second hour was better. I moved to a remote area of the site and popped two wheats in a row. Next target was the bird pin (missing stones) which looks like older costume jewelry. I hunted this area pretty thoroughly looking for more old coins until a team showed up to practice and I moved for them. They'll be there next time I return. Found the junk ring and a mess more clad and I issued myself my normal end of hunt challenge. 10 more finds then home. They came pretty quick so I challenged myself to find 5 more coins on the walk back to my truck. I was back in the area I had started out in and had one more find to dig when I got the signal for zinc cent. I NEVER end a hunt on a zinc cent but I also find a lot of small silver rings on this notch so I dug it. I was flabbergasted when I saw the 1964 quarter. There had to be something else in that hole. If you look carefully you'll see my silver quarter is resting on a foil drink bottle top. They were both located at around 3 inches deep around 1/2 inch from each other but not touching. I did a very careful scan for other metal and those were the only two pieces I detected. Just goes to show you, DIG IT ALL.
Ended up with 70 coins. My third silver coin in two days. A nice foreign coin for my book.
It took 17 hunts for me to hit 1000 coins. I reached this milestone 8 days earlier than I did last year. During this time I found 4 silver coins, 5 silver rings, 2 silver pendants, and no gold items. The value of the clad is $104.41. I've dropped 5 pounds of winter fat and still need to shed 20 or so more. I am doing a state quarter scavenger hunt as a side quest this year and for my first 17 hunts I have found 35 of 50 state quarters. Not surprisingly, I have found all but one of the first 25 quarters and need 14 out of the last 25 to complete my collection. I am putting them in a folder exactly how they looked when I plucked them from the ground. I do not recognize the territorial quarters as legitimate except for maybe DC.
For all you new members, this is how long and detailed and probably boring many of my old posts used to be.

My next milestone will be 20,000 coins lifetime with Garrett machines. If I can do it before the middle of June that would be in less than two years. I should make it with a month to spare, weather permitting!
The little metal ring next to the silver quarter is worth mentioning only because it weighs about a tenth of a gram and was 4 inches deep. It took me 10 minutes to find it even with my Pro-Pointer. My eyesight is getting pretty bad lately.
