I got my Omega two weeks ago and I did not take my Etrac hunting once while learning the Omega. First, I changed the battery today and got 22 hours on the first one. A very economical detector. I hunted seven times and all were at spots and all were spots I hunt frequently with all of the high end detectors I have had over the last four years. To be completely honest, I did not expect too much from the Omega, but I was in for a surprise. I have even cleaned the clad out of these places and a good day with my Etrac is a silver coin and a couple of wheats. In my seven Omega hunts, I found 140 coins total. For the breakdown: 16 wheat pennies, 4 mercury dimes, 1 no date SLQ, 1 silver war nickle, and two silver rings. I continue to be astounded at these finds. Today, I found the SLQ and a 1923 mercury dime. All of the silver coins I have found were buried in trash. The Omega is very responsive and does a great job of finding coins masked by junk, even with the 11 inch dd coil. Most of the silver and wheats were between 6 and 8 inches deep. The detector was right on with the numbers and tones at these depths. I initially used the one tone exclusively and found it to have great audio qualities that help distinguish coins and tabs. At first I thought the Omega lost a small amount of depth when running in the three or four tones, but that is not the case. The high tone in either three or four tones is razor sharp and that lets you pick the coins from trash. I run the disc at 15 and listen to all the junk tones, but when a high tone appears, it will wake you up. I have found it likes rusty bottle caps, but after I dug a dozen or so, I saw that the numbers would jump all over the place. It will high tone from all angles on bottle caps, but if it doesn't lock on, nine times out of ten, it is a rusty cap. It is very similar to the Coinstrikes I have had in that regard. I am not one to study the manual and the first four or five hunts had me having a somewhat hard time ground balancing. I talked to Dobo on the phone and he set me straight on the correct way to balance. I guess I should have read the manual better. When ground balanced correctly, it is quiet and deep. As I said before, I run my disc at 15, tones mostly at three, sensitivity as high as possible(mid 70's is the average for my ground) .Also, the Omega can be swept fast or slow, but I prefer slow to medium. The Omega is a very simple and easy to use detector that will run with the big boys at less than half the cost. In my opinion, it is the best detector for the money. Teknetics did their job on this one! R.L.
