3 day cellar hole hunt with Explorer SE

I've had the Explorer SE for three weeks now. I took it out to Denman Mountain to hunt some celar holes in the Catskills. This is the first cellar hole I had found. After 3 hours here are some of the finds:

My first signal was this old colonial locket that was 7 inches down off an old wagon road that went in front of the cellar hole.

I just want to say that the Explorer SE is the best machine that I've used, because my second target was this pewter wedding band that I dug at over 13 inches. I know it was this deep because I measured the hole. I just want to say I was using digital mode with pitch hold audio and the numbers didn't fluctuate and stayed constant with great smooth audio. I was amazed...

Here is a picture of the hole it came out of

Another signal I had dug was this decorative brooch pin which was also off of the wagon road at 5 inches down.

I went down to where the old spring was near the cellar hole, and found these pewter spoons and sleigh bell which were also deep hits.
I notice when using pitch hold audio I am digging deeper targets and targets that are on edge come through nice and clear with repeatable ferrous/conductivity numbers in digital mode.

I just want to say that it was a great hunt with a great new detector.

Enjoy the photos (CellarholeRat Catskills New York) See you in the woods :twodetecting:

Nice bunch of finds from a cellar hole. How was the SE in the heavy iron around the hole? My XS is so noisy, sometimes I can't even get close to one. Ron

HI RON I NEVER USED A EXPLORER XS.BUT THE NEW EXPLORER DOES A GOOD JOB AROUND IRON.I SET MY EXPLORER IN DIGITAL WITH PITCH HOLD AUDIO.I HAD TO DROP MY GAIN DOWN FROM FACTORY 8 TO 5.I HAD TO MUCH CHATTER AND FALSING AROUND IRON.IRUN MY SENSITIVITY IN SEMI AUTOMATIC AT 25.IALL SO USE NOISE CANCEL AT EACH SITE.WITH THIS SET UP I DO GOOD AROUND CELLER HOLES.I AM USING THE STOCK COIL.GOOD HUNTING.:twodetecting::twodetecting:

That is awesome finds!!! This is my opinion don't rely on the any reading if you get a good sound , I would dig go by your ears and you will be surprised at what you are missing but you will dig some trash.

I know for a fact and do not dispute old cellar holes are very productive, based on historic evidence and everyones MD finds. But, I have a hard time understanding why many cellar holes are very productive as I will explain my ignorance. I know people back in the day did not trust banks. I know people buried their money or hid it in cracks and crevices in their home, well, or property. I know cellar holes are excellent places to find treasure. I'm curious why people were either so stupid or careless back then. Back in the day, the things you are finding in cellars were worth much more to them than today. I can't imangine many people being so careless with valuable possessions back "in the day". Today in this age as a family man, if I were to hide, bury, or conceal my savings, I would confide in my wife and children, to make sure they knew where it was in the event of my death. Did hermits occupy most of these treasure troves and they burned down? Did families not know the head of the household had precious metals (money), valuables hidden in the house/property? I find these questions as interesting as finding the treasure itself? Well, almost....
