3 Hour hunt with the Yeti got us each some silver and a big "whatzit" for me??:detecting:

Met up with "a buddy yesterday...and we headed to one of the parks we gave up on a year or so ago.

We only had 3 hours so I didn't call Guvner for such a short hunt. It's probably a good thing too because he would have more than likely messed up our karma anyway.:smoke:

He has a nack of digging something up 2 feet away from you and messing up your day by gloating about it.

He has also been known to get into scuffles with senior citizens at restaurants:biggrin:

Anyway...over the next 3 hours...neither one of us would dig a wheatie...but we did get 4 silver between us:)

He told me to pick a good spot to start because I always seem to find something pretty quick.

This day was no different because my very first signal was an iffy deepie...but decent enough for me to give it a shot.:beers:

I dug down over 8" and ran the probe. I was surprised when it sang...and the target was still a ways down.

I dug a big chunk of dirt out...and from nearly 11" down:surprised:...out popped a clump with a brown/black coin on edge sticking out...and I mean on edge.

Now if Guvner would have found it...he would have given himself credit for an extra 1/2" of depth like he did when he found a Barber half on edge a couple of weeks ago.

Since I found it though...I have to say my buddy and I measured it and it was right at 10 1/2" deep to the top edge of the coin. 11" to the bottom edge though:biggrin:

I picked up what I thought was a wheatie so we could see the date on it since it was so deep.

After rubbing it a little though...I saw the glint of silver.:clapping:

I thought "no way"...but then what I was sure was a wheatie...ended up being a Barber dime with a hard blackish/brown tarnish coated over it.

You can see in the pic of the uncleaned coins...you can't even tell it's a silver coin. In fact the back never did clean up.

What a pleasant surprise it was though...to see the silver peek through the outermost edge of the rusted, tarnished crud.

It was a 1902 Barber dime.

About 45 minutes later my buddy called me over to watch him dig a plug.

I chuckled as he popped out a big chunk of crap...cussed a little...then chucked it towards the garbage dumpster.:crylol:

His grumbling stopped though when he instictively ran the probe one more time before filling in the hole...and the probe sang AGAIN!

From about 8" down..and next to the big chunk of crap came the 1897 Barber dime he found.:)

We then hunted another hour or so...each finding one merc...but no wheaties.

I also got a big silver cross which I hacked:stars:...a smashed sterling silver band...then a sweet sterling filagree cross by a set of old volleyball poles.

The oddball neat find of the day was the big 3" piece I found with the indian chief in full headdress engraved on it.

I have no clue what it is...so I scanned it dirty first.

I then rinsed it and took another pic of it.

About 1/2" from the bottom it has the word CHIEF in big letters. Any idea as to what it is?

I wonder if it couldn't possibly be the old emblem off of an antique Indian motorcycle??

Thanks for viewing...and good luck on your next hunt.

WTG Bryce !!!! I dont have a clue what the Indian thing is but is cool as he!! Congrats on the silver and glad you could get out !! It has rained everyday for almost 2 weeks !! I need to buy some goats to mow my yard and eat them after they get done mowing !!! Have a Good one and Good luck on your next hunt !!!

Congrats, on your finds, Bryce and Yeti!

It sure is a good feeling to hear that probe sing at over 9". :super:
Your sites must really be pillaged for you to get no wheaties. :stars:

Good luck on your next hunt, buddy!!

Good finds, Bryce (and Phil). Not bad for three hours. I'm wondering if you guys are having trouble finding places that aren't completely waterlogged.
This weekend looks good weatherwise, but after all the rain last night & what has fallen today (it's still raining here right now) I don't know if I can find any place dry enough this weekend. I like the ground moist & all, but when the water table is practically at the surface, that's a bit much.

Thanks Dan.

YES..we are having problems.:stars:

Many times when I go to dig a plug...it fills back in with water before I get a chance to see what the heck is in it:laugh:

I'm gonna' think about coming your way in a couple of weeks to hit a some of the "bad news" parks.

If I do...are you interested?

Thanks Dan.

Yes...they are definately pillaged...and pilfered...barren...worn out...beat up..etc. :stars:

There is truly nothing left that isn't either masked...or at the 10" depth level.

I LOVE a challenge....but geeze it's getting tough:beers:

I am thinking about heading to a few of those "seedy" parks on the weekend I mentioned to you.

I'll be in touch buddy...and we'll see what happens.

I haven't been to any of the parks I think you are talking about yet this year, & also I haven't hunted anywhere with you or Phil or any of the other guys on here yet this year either. It would probably be a good time to try to do it before midsummer when it gets really hot.

Thanks to a very helpful hunter who did some research for me..here is what my "whatzit" turned out to be...the head badge off of a 1915 Bicycle made by a company then sold by Sears.

Nice finds Bryce and Phil........
Digging coins at that depth is a challenge.
Congrats on a good hunt. Gold Nuggets :wiggle:

Nice going there Bryce.:clapping: Not as well as you probably had hoped for, but even one piece of silver is a good day in my book. I have no doubt that you will kick butt on your next outing buddy. HH.

Cool finds my friend.. And i would have never guessed that's what the Chief was made for lol That is what makes this sport so fun!!! Keep it up!!

You're only right in that I would have found it. I had to laugh about the on edge business. Guys should know that anything left in the parks is almost assuredly a problem target. I''d even say most likely on edge with iron being next to it a close second. Of course a more prolific hunter will have his own theories.

Thanks for your thoughts B..

G...

Sweet finds bud!!!

Those odd finds like the Chief badge are my favorites. Your friend did well too.

Have a good day today Bryce. I know mother's day will not be easy for you

Glad you both got some nice Barbers and the Jewelry also. I like that Indian Item as well. Another Successful Hunt by Bryce and the "YETI"! :clapping: Continued Success, Good Luck and HH to you fella's on your next outings.:detecting:
