30 minute hunt = BIG silver...2nd for the day! And a first for me!

As if finding the 1919 Merc wasn't good enough this morning, I went back to the Masonic lodge later this afternoon for a half hour hunt and came away with a 1954 Ben Franklin half!!

It was down about six inches, just like the Merc, but this time I could tell by the signal that it was something larger in diameter, and it had that "flutey" silver sound, and again, the visual target ID was lying to me! No longer will I trust the visual ID value number except when a target is out of the hole and in the plug. That's about the only time it seems to be completely accurate.

I've wondered for quite some time if I would ever dig a Franklin half. It wasn't one of my goals this year, but at least I can cross this one off my "finds" list.

HH,

Ray

Woo Hoo! Another strike...Congrats!!

Thanks ND & ed!

ND, yes the Target ID was reading +35/36 and an occasional glimpse of +37. But, as I stated, I was no longer relying on the Target ID number as I am concentrating on the flutey sound of silver in all metal/relic mode with ferrous tones (of course, you can cross save ferrous tones to the coin and coin & jewelry mode if you require the discrimination of those modes). If you are over silver, you will get that flutey tone no matter what the ID value is showing you (er, to clarify, no matter if you have a lower 30s value).

I use conductive audio, wonder if the I.D. would be more accurate. I have yet to run over a silver in the ground with the Safari.

Ray excellent find.
I have not trusted the ID's for some time. None of the detectors I have used in the last 3 summers were always right. Many, many times they lied to me. But when you get to the sounds it is a different story. It is like copying morse code, the sound of the target is the one you copy. That is the only one sound you are interested in. The sound of the signal is the one you dig. I feel like a hypocrite saying that to you Ray because I don't have it yet. But that is my goal to get the sounds down and then use the ID reading to give me more information. The sounds will not always be right either, but the gut feelings you have will surly improve with experience.
Good find Ray and thanks for sharing.......Z/Jer
