31 Conductivity...

Question...I get alot of targets in the ground that show "31" conductivity on my SE Pro. Usually, they are hitting 29/30/31, bouncing around, and often with a very low ferrous number (0 to 4). So far, EVERY one of them I've dug has been rusty iron junk, to the point that if I have a target reading high conductvity, and I start seeing some 31 numbers, I am about ready to assume them to be rusty iron and thus not dig. Any good (coin) target I've had, like a quarter or whatever, will sometimes hit 30 conductivity, but NEVER 31. Further, all the charts I've seen showing Explorer numbers on good targets never include a 31 conductivity. Many of the bigger silver coins have 30, but not 31. Before I start "ruling out" the 31s, though, is there anyone who has ever dug a GOOD target that hit any more than a very occasional 31 -- i.e. hit 31 fairly consistently?

Thanks!

Steve

I thought someone else mentioned the 00 31 signal. Can't recall now, but if it's a strong reading in both directions I will still dig it.

[size=large]seems to me that someone said "31 was a meterorite. if true then it's telling you it's iron. i've had the same problem. it's been a nail every time. sometimes i'll go ahead and dig just to see what it is anyway. i still learning and getting where i don't mind digging when i'm in the learning zone.

Yeah, for me 31 means nail. I know on the Etrac, where the conductivity numbers are different, the guys I hunt with say if the conductivity hits 50 -- it's iron. 49 can be something good, but 50 is iron, according to them. I wonder if 31 is the same thing on the SE Pro. I certainly has been so far...

Anyone ever dig a "good" 31?

consider switching from smartscreen to numbers.

Just much more info available by watching the cursor action...dance...movement...flutter...walk...etc...over a bunch of flashing numbers. Just my honest opinion.

After...and only after I "piddle" with a signal and decide I might want to give it a shot is when I glance at the screen to see what the cursor is saying.

Bryce --

I will try to learn to use the smart screen, instead of numbers; but, I'm a "numbers" guy and it's what I'm used to from other machines, so it will be tough to get used to the cursor thing.

By the way, I dug two quarters today that occasional hit 31 conductivity, not sure why, but they did. So much for that. Most quarters I dig are 00-29.

00-31 H O T rock... hot rock... hot rock. I field hunt and those suckers have their own tone..... but ive never found anything at 00-31.... but H O T rock. If you are getting nails at that .... reduce you sensitivity just a bit. Meteorites according to Gus at DOCs detectors are 31-31. I know the digital reading.... but like Bryce said use the smartscreen its really so much easier to read a graph that watch those numbers bounce. On deep targets it may bounce several times and only give you the correct digit a couple of times... you might pass it up UNLESS you listen to the sound... then check the smartscreen.
