4 1/2 x 7 coil and Quattro settings do work.

I've been using the 4 1/2" x 7" for a couple of weeks. It really works in trashy sites and covers more ground than the 5" and the same ground as the 8"(actually 7 1/2") as they are near identical in length.

Thanks goes to Mike(Virginia Beach)for his strong recommendation of using manual sensitivity. I have checked targets found with manual and switched to auto and the target was gone. I'm now a convert to manual.

Thanks also goes to Golden for her recommendations one of which is using high density in high trash places. I'm a convert to this after pulling out 3 coins within inches of each other. The high density setting and the 4 1/2" x 7" coil where able to seperate the coins. Normally after intial sizing of the target I would have said that it was an old tin can with solder sealing it and walked away.

So if you are thinking of getting a coil smaller than the stock one try the 4 1/2" x 7" you'll love it.

I can think of a couple of places where the smaller coil would certainly be handier than the 7.5inch coil, so yep, it would be better. the sites I'm thinking of have most of the stone walling collapsed around itself, and the scrub is so dense, I can't help but knock the coil around a bit, so the smaller coil would reach those out of the way, tiny spots under the rumble, logs and sticks much better I reckon. So yeh, the next tool on the agenda, aside from the great grass saw cutter shown on the Explorer vidoe, is a smaller coil!
