4.5 x 7" Elliptical EXcelerator Search Coil

Ive really been thinking about getting this coil, but never see any reviews about it... Anyone out there using one and if so let hear how your doing....

I used this coil on a few hunts last spring.. it works fine pinpoints good, targets read pretty accurate, but the one negative I've experienced is the depth reading scale is considerably off...meaning the coil reads the target alot deeper then what actually is..

Personally, I think the minelab 8 inch ( actual 7.25) is a better coil for my area... I still picks thru trash very easily, gets better depth, and the depth scale is more accurate..

Just my opinion, hope it helps you..

Well I know a little more than I did before. Still wondering what kind of depth people are getting with it.... I'll be happy with 6" ..... I was also wondering how the separation is between targets in trashy areas.... ?

Read Bryces field test report on coils he has used, I use the 6" Excelerator good depth good seperation here in the U K.

I checked Bryces posts on the coils that he has used but don't see anything regarding this coil?????????????????????????????

Maybe Bryce will jump in here and answer your question, he did mention the 4.5 x 7" coil in one of his posts.

if this is the coil in the picture your talking about i was thinking of buying one but changed my mind and went for the platypus coil as you just cant find enough info on it to tell weather its Worth buying are not:shrug:

just realised its a different size coil your talking about . anyways the coil in the pic is very hard to find any concrete info on it to help you make your mind up enough to buy one or not.

The 4.5 x7 is my small coil of choice. I used it on an Explorer 11 and a SE. I like the elipitical shape for poking into narrow spots, but gives slightly better coverage with it's 7 inch length. You will easily see 6 inches of depth. I never used the digital screen on any of my Explorers so I can't comment on if the numbers are off. Also, if the depth gauge is off, I never noticed any glaring discrepancies. I have yet to try it on my Etrac, but I am more than sure it will work like a charm with it. Is it any better than the other small coils people use? I doubt it, but the shape of it sets it apart from the others and that is what works for me. R.L.

Thanks RLOH for the reply, I was thinking that that's how the coil was going to operate. I'm hopping I get a little better separation over my 6" excelerator coil. And if I'm getting an easy six on the depth I'm happy... Lots of trash where I'm going to use this coil.

I've used the 4.5x7" for a few years . It's a fine coil for parks and homes . But I wouldn't use it around cellar-holes that have allot of leaf and pine needle build-up. You will lose depth and shallow target will sound deep. Anything past 4" you'll be lucky to hear in this type of ground. Go with the sunray 8"

Dennis 2 thanking you and everyone else that has added some input to my question. For the most part I was looking for something with good separation in those really trashy areas. Im glad I was told about using it in cellar holes. At the present time I have the SEF 10 x 12 and the 6" excelorator coils . Both work great and I must say I get really good depth. So adding the 4.5 x 7 to my arsenal of coils I thought was a good move. I'm also planning or getting 8x6 before spring. Its probably going to be my primary coil. The 4.5 x7 arrived here on Friday and I got to use it in a few places that didn't' have snow.... ( lots of snow here yet ) It seems to have really good separation and I pulled a dime at 4" . On the air test I was getting about 8" so we shall see how it goes... I can however see where thick leaves etc in the woods would be a problem.... Hey Bruce, Whats the scoop on this coil??????
