Today was a RARE morning for me....10:00 to 2:00 FREE.:wiggle: I headed to the old worn out park a few miles away. We used to hold club hunts here back in the late 80's and early 90's. Lots of great stuff came out of here for lots of people. I found some deepies there last year too.
I started to hunt and hadn't swung the coil 10 times before I saw an older lady walking her dog towards me. She was smiling and I love animals...so I took off the headphones and set the SE down. The little dog was trotting my way so I put out my hands to pet him. He ignored me...sauntered by me... then promptly hiked up his leg and tinkled on my coil. :lmfao:Wonderful! :rolleyes:He then let me pet him...the lady apologized...and they went on their way.
Back to hunting...and boy did it heat up quickly. Within 5 minutes I popped out a badly corroded injun from 9". Kept playing around the same area and within another 15 minutes got another deep signal. This was a crazy signal...yet peeped high tone at times that begged to be dug. I thought..."no way I should really dig this"..as I bent down to cut a plug. I cut a deep plug and ran the probe in the hole...nothing. I dug another 3" out of the hole then ran the probe again...and it sang...yippee! From 9" to 10"...out popped the 1918 merc on edge.:super:
After about 40 minutes I got a weird low signal...the kind that I rarely pay any attention to...BUT it had the slightest high tone with it. The cursor started about 1/2" up from the bottom right of the screen...then bounced straight left 3/4 accross the screen where it locked on where I have my iron mask set at. Again...I do not usually dig lower hits like this...but something in the tone of the signal obviously made me want to dig... and the depth meter was buried...so I did.:detecting: I got down a good 8" and the probe was still singing. I plopped out another big chunk of dirt and saw an imprint of a green circle. I thought..."what the heck"...no way a wheatie or injun puts off a low tone like that. I dug out another clod and from right at 10" down...out popped the 1862 Fatty Injun:yikes:...my FIRST in 30 years of huntin'. It ain't purty...but's it's ALL MINE!:bouncy:
After that...the coins just kept comin'. EVERY coin I dug over the next 3 hours was 8" to 10" deep. All three of the other injuns came from over 9" down.
Even though I am still pumped over finding my first ever fatty...one of my favorite finds of all time also came today. From 10" down came the beautiful "stretched" wheatie that has the Lord's Prayer imprinted on it. It is in great shape and you can clearly read each and every word on it. I will NEVER forget digging it the same hunt I found my first fatty injun.:wiggle:
What a great 4 hour hunt at a POUNDED park.

Congrats, Bryce, on finding the older treasure at such deep depths! My White's Spectrum XLT will probably not detect that deep, for I very seldom found Indians or the fatty ones!
You did really good and digging deep holes slowed you down more from getting more coins in the time link you had to detect! WTG.....and as Mike, me son, says show him a hunted out park and he will find the oldies.....but Minelabs are the best detectors for beeping at those depths, I think! I found a nice ring at 7" depth according to my meter and said, well at 7 inches it has to be something besides a pull tab.....which I've dug lots and lots! Keep up the good work and dig those coinies and relics! :clapping: :jump:

God Bless!

come to the forum hunt...I would CRAWL there if needed. I just can't get that far away from home right now due to health issues in my family.
Take care bro.

I absolutely loved my xlt. My daughter used it until "boys" became more important than detecting. Take care and may God bless you and your family.

Thanks Steve. Buddy...you find some GREAT stuff and I love reading your posts. Good luck on your next hunt.

Hunted out parks... I remember a very seasoned hunter who was heavy into science that every year, metal in the ground, especially coins tend to shift and float up and down deeper into the soil according to the temp, and air pressure, and of course run off. I have visited a few places where I have hunted a year or two ago, and couldn't recognize the areas from the many changes that have occurred, such as fallen trees, eroded mounts that were there before and not there now. Also, as we become better hunters we start hitting areas at the right angles and special stuff comes out of our hunt. The Explorer's never stop amazing me how they nice out silver and other deep coins, and yes even peenies will come in at a low tone, had that happen to me too... Well, HH and keep it up...

I dug a similar Large Cent like this at 15 to 18" in an area that I had swung my coil for days at a time... What I notice was, that the angle in which I had swung my coil is what made the difference.... that deepie sound I can never forget, and have gotten it more and more as I gain more experience in hunting for deepies.. Bigger coil would also help...

Can't blame me for trying! :)

Thanks Bryce for your nice comments! I really like or liked my XLT also! I've found lots and lots of coins and etc. with it! Dug a lot of alum can pcs, foil and other trash though! But not so much as I would if I didn't have my special program loaded into it! I cannot spend hours digging everything because I get too tired, but just to find the coins and an occassional ring is okay! I've found tokens, keys and other items which are nice to collect!

Tami, my daughter, detected until she discovered the boys also and was too young as far as I was concerned! They grow up too quickly! She is almost 40 and became a grandma May 2 for the first time! Geeee.....I am getting old and older!

Keep on getting out when you can and finding the older silver coins and relics too! :)

God Bless!
