4inch or 8 inch coil? F4

CanadaDig

New member
I have an F4 and have found somewhat trashy areas to hunt, the DD coil works well but bottle caps and trashy areas seem to wear me out. The Clad doesnt register like U.S. Coins so you have to run on only iron 1 disc to catch the quarters at Iron 2 etc. Yea, its a pain. Has anyone used the 4inch sniper coil or 8 inch C coil. Im afraid the 4inch coil will not go very deep so thinking of getting the 8 inch coil.

Well, it's nice to have a choice of different coils to suit different situations.

Really trashy sites can be a pain, a smaller coil does lose depth but it can see between the trash.

Also you can consider putting on an 11" or 12" coil and just go for it a section at a time.

This is my coil line up.

I have an F2 and I only used the 4'' on it once, but I can tell you you don't lose that much depth vs my 8"...about 2 inches...but I still get about 6 inches, (in air testing, anyway), which is plenty enough to find 90% of the stuff that is buried.
The smaller the coil the more sensitive too, so you got that working for you, and that is one reason a lot of F2 and F4 users love this small coil for tot lots.
Not to mention the ability to get closer to the big metal stuff, too.
From a ton of posts that I have read from users with this small coil set up, they also mention that it is much easier to snake through trashy areas and pick out the good signals with the smaller coil because of the smaller field.
Also, I have seen some owners amazed that they have completely cleaned out areas like their own backyards with the larger coils, the concentric specifically, and have come back with that sniper coil and found a bunch more.
The 4'' is very cheap as far as coils go, I have even seen used ones for as little as $25 out there so getting one to add to the accessory arsenal is a no brainer, in my opinion.

Now again, I myself have never used one of these, but I have also read that several owners say the 10" coil is superior and deeper compared to the 8" overall, and one of their all time favorites on the F series machines if they have used both, so I tend to lean towards getting that one and not the 8" if I was going to spend the money on an after market coil.

I have a Vaquero and I did start using a 10X12 DD on it this year and I absolutely love it but I can tell you that on most detectors, when it comes to pop tops, all DD coils have a problem with these.
Nature of the beast, I guess.

I was just getting to the point with my standard concentric in telling the difference between coins and pop tops, sometimes, anyway, but after putting on that DD, back to frickin' square one.
All pop tops sounded like great coin signals to me again.

If all you have ever used was that large DD and you switch to a concentric of any type, eventually you will see what I mean.

Thanks a bunch....The DD coil has found me 2 silvers, 1 silver ring, and a 1919 large Canada cent...I dig all Pop Tops hoping for gold but as you said the Bottle caps drive me nuts. I can sometimes tell now after digging a hundred--they jump around but you never know if your skipping that nice Silver dollar. I have a found a great place to use a sniper coil since I will get one. Bus stops here in Canada are always covered in Snow and people seem to drop coins and other goodies as they try to get change out. Then the spring thaw seems to bury in the mud slush. However the pop caps are scattered thru out as well in these areas.....Thanks for all the input....I will get the 4 inch.

Im thinking on getting a White 3vi or 3xt for Christmas....hoping the wife will get it for me......anyone know for a newbie should I get the 3xt (cheaper) or go for the gusto on 3vi...im a newbie but I like the 3 frequency action that I have seen on utube.

KellyCo has the 4inch coil and 8 inch coil.....is that the only kind , are their any other coils on any other website that are good or are these the best for the f4?

Well here in UK my choice coil on my F4 for searching long forgotten and narrow footpath's 3 feet n less wide is the 4" Coil. With the super fast speed & scalpel like separation the F4 with this coil as it can be flicked about with speed and accuracy. And of course all the bounty hunter coils fit the F4 So getting the full set doesn't cost you a fortune, I have the 11"DD Fisher, 10"concentric Bounty Hunter, & my beloved 4"Fisher Coil, Just need the 8"Concentric Bounty Hunter and any other I come across that were made for the old bounty Hunter Detectors.

Regarding the 4" coil, I was very impressed at the depth for such a small coil, as mentioned 2-3 inches less than the Larger coils But just the job for winkling out the goodies in awkward places...
