505 vs. 705

Smudge

New member
A little torn and would like your opinions.

Coin and jewelry hunting exclusively. Land hunting only (already have a beach detector); parks and schoolyards, etc.

Which would be the better setup?

The 505 with the 6" 18.75 kHz coil

-or-

The 705 gold pack with the 5x10 DD 18.75 kHz coil?

Or would there be no noticeable difference?

I'm hoping that's the answer since if it is for the same price I can get the 505 with 6" coil and have the 9" coil as well for less trashy areas.

You can Adjust the ground balance a little more on the 705 and it has ground tracking . That may help on depth a little. I had a 50 and now I have a 70. My 70 does get a little more depth , but the 50 locked on to targets better. The reason is the 50 has less segments to register targets in. As far as coils they are both basically the same. I think either will be good. Be sure to check out the faq faq post at top of page.

Depends on what you are going to be hunting for. The 6" DD is great for tight areas an d close to metal fencing. Great around bleacher areas and can separate out targets much better being small. I have both coils on my 705. Never had a 505 but the 705 has more segments as stated above. That is one of the reason I bit the bullet and spent the extra money for the 705. Got it with the stock coil and added more coils as funds allowed over time. My primary coil now is the 5X10 DD. It is balanced well and sweeps allot of area. Great for gold. In my experience It is not as deep as the stock coil. That said it covers more ground so that makes up for it in my opinion..... Good luck
