6/29/2008 - Weekend Camping trip hunt

Went camping this past weekend. Was given permission to hunt in the park, mainly the volleyball pits, playgrounds and near the waterpark.

My wife found these two rings. A big silver ring with salamanders, that almost fits on my thumb, and a mood ring with dolphins. She found them in a parking lot and in the grass without the detector! She out-did me.

Then I found a 2001 Sac $1, a 1964 Roosie, and a 1946 wheatie.

Then I found this metal dart. Haven't quite figured out what it was used for. It's fairly heavy cast metal, is olive green in color, and the nose rotates and can lock in position. Anyone ever seen anything like this? And can shed some light as to what it is?

Also found $11.32 in clad, a wolf scout scarf slide, and some miscellaneous items..

Thanks for looking ..

It's a cap dart. Cool find! Get the wife an Ace 250.

Thanks Chris, never saw one of those cap darts before. Seemed pretty sophisticated for a toy!

I think we used to call them cap grenades when I was a kid now that I think about it a little. Cap rocket? Cap bomb? Cap dart?

Chris

I remember those cap darts as a kid. You would get those little red strips of ribbon with gunpowder in little dots, rip a piece off and put it in there.

I really like the patina on that Sac. dollar.!

Great hunting. some nice silver and a wheat not to mention the memories you gave us with our cap grenades. Probably the first one Ive seen since 197- something.

Some good finds especially the rings..:clapping:

When I was a kid ( about 137 years ago ) we made our own from two bolts and a wide nut and used the head off of kitchen matches for the explosive. Made a lot bigger bang than caps and usually blew the grenade apart.

Bill

I used to have one of these as a kid as well. I called it a cap dart, but I kind of recall seeing "Exploding Rocket!" on packaging in my mind, anyway.

FWIW,
Brian

I have found 2 1/2 of those cap bombs. One of them below had a patent number so I have this patent saved for it.

No problem. I used to play with them as a kid too.
