6" HF Coil

I'm detecting an abanoned club site where the pool area is loaded with copper pennies. The other detector I use, as well as most detectors, cannot differentiate at all between copper penny and clad dime. I figured I will try my Xterra 705 with the 6" HF coil for separation purposes. For the heck of it, I air tested, for what it's worth, a copper penny and clad dime and do a get a 2 digit difference if held a couple inches above the coins. This is not the case with my other detector. Does anyone know if this has any real hunt merit?

It often will about 80% or so of the time. Depends some on conditions.

It could be helpful, if you realize that not all coins (of the same denomination) will read the same. When I made the coin chart, I passed several hundred coins under the coil. Whereas clad dimes typically lock on at 36, I found copper pennies anywhere from 28 - 38, depending on the specific coin (date, wear, etc). If you've not taken a look at the chart, you can find it in the FAQFAQ section above. HH Randy
