I am not usually a clad hunter. I would rather hunt 8 hours and find ONLY one coin if it's silver! I have to admit though I had a blast.
I tried the old fairgrounds where I found the SLQ a few days ago but found nothing but clad....not even a wheatie. I've hunted there for 25 years though so if I find even a wheatie there any more I feel victorious.
I found 22 clad coins but after 3 hours got bored and sunburnt...so we went home about 3:00.
About 5:30 we decided to go to a football field where there is a grassy area beside it about the size of a gymnasium. I knew there would be nothing but clad there because it has only been there since the 70's. Kids always play and rough-house right in this gymnasium sized grassy area while the games are going on and they have 100's of people there every weekend. It is no longer used for football games but is now used for organized soccer games. There is a league that plays 10 games per weekend so it's heavily used. I thought it would be a great place for my fiance to try out her new classic ID with Mr. Bill's mods since it is only her second time out with it. Boy was I right. In the next 3 hours we found 49 more coins!...and more importantly...she had fun. She ended up with 18 coins and I ended up with 31 more making my total 53 for the day and a total of 71 coins between us.
Here's the breakdown on my 53 coin clad day:
14 quarters-18 dimes-17 pennies-4 nickels
Here's her breakdown on her 18 coin day:
4 quarters-3 dimes-1 nickel-10 pennies
It sure makes it fun to have Teri and her son Jordan along with me when I detect. I also bought her son an ace 250 and he usually hunts too but didn't feel well yesterday. When I hunt for silver it's gets boring for them because there isn't much for them to find in the old hunted out areas I go to. Every now and then I take then to a place where they can have "fun" and find coins too like we did on Sunday. No I didn't buy my SE and upteen coils to hunt clad...but we had a blast and that's really what detecting is all about.
Happy Hunting
