6" MF coil

I have a few coils that I got with my XT 705. I have used the 9" MF and the 10.5" HF DD. I have the 10.5" MF DD and the 6" dd. Both of these coils have never been used. I am tempted to sell one so I can get the 6" HF DD coil. Has anyone used the 6" MF coil? What are your thoughts? I am reluctant to sell any coil before I have used it but if I use it then it wont be worth as much. Should I keep both and just get the 6" DD also? This is the way I am currently leaning. I am particularly interested in opinions on the 6" MF coil and its uses. It doesn't seem to be as popular as the 6" HF DD coil. I have been hunting spots with old square nails and getting a lot low tone hits and wrap around with the 2 coils I have been using.
 
In my opinion, the 6-inch coil is a bit "hot around the edges". By that I mean that it has a large detection field, even for a small coil. That makes it tough to work along fence lines or close to other metal objects. It is a good coil, hunts deep and operates very smoothly. But the reason I use a small coil is for target separation. And of the two 6-inch X-TERRA coils, I prefer the DD. JMHO HH Randy
 
Thanks, I have been using the 10.5 hf dd a lot and it does get better separation than the 9" but it really likes rusty iron. Bottle caps often ring as 32-36. I have been using the method described in the e book to try to weed them out. I still dig the stronger signals just in case but they have all been iron of some sort. I have found a lot of small split shot at the lake with this coil. It does a good job on 1/2g split shot out to about 3" sensitivity set at 20-25. If the 6" hf dd is more sensitive then it should be great on small gold.

I probably use my 6 inch DD MF more than any other coil. It's lighter and easy to swing all day long. It has really good separation when hunting in trashy areas. As most of the people on this forum have stated, the depth is great for this little coil. I don't see much loss of depth compared to the larger coils, but I'm sure there is some! When hunting on uneven ground, they are great. Getting close to objects like rocks, sidewalks or other obstructions makes this coil worth it's weight in gold, so to speak! Once I clean a site out with the little 6 incher, I go back over it with my 10.5 MF DD, just to see if I missed anything. I usually go slower and from another direction and listen for "iffy" and or deeper targets. But, don't let me talk you out of getting the HF coils because they seem to work really good on gold (nuggets and jewelry). I have most of the various coils in MF and HF and use them according to the site I'm hunting. I'm going to Alaska on the 7Th of July and I'm going to take my 6 inch HF DD while I'm prospecting at Valdez Creek. We are mostly going to be dredging, but you can bet I'm going to be swinging my 705 every chance I get!

Thanks, good luck. I really started detecting after CA banned dredging. Now all my equipment is almost worthless. :ranting:
 
The 6' coil that is DD is a HF coil 18.75 hz the 6" MF coil is a concentric coil.
