6 More Coins Today!

James N.D.

New member
I went and tried a friends parents house that was built in 1906 and found a few coins. I detected it a bit about 2 years ago but I didn't do much of the yard at that time. I found a few Wheats there back then and I thought I would give it another try. I found 6 more keepers but I didn't get any silver this time. I was only out for a short time so I might have to go back and try it with a smaller coil. There is a lot of iron in the ground for some reason and I know I walked over coins so I will try the Joey Coil next time. I found a V-Nickel dated 1901 and it was only about 3 inches in the ground. It was under a big tree so I think this is the reason for it being so shallow. I also dug 5 Wheats dated 1918-d,1937-d,1941-d,1944, and 1944-d. I also found an old pin that use to have a ribbon on it and it said PRESIDENT on the front of it. Also dug and old Cuff Link and an old Thimble as well. I let the home owner keep them and he let me keep the old coins. I also dug 27 new pennies and 1 new dime which I give the home owner as well. WTG James. Very nice V nickle you found. The wheat's aren't too bad either........:) I haven't been out since the ski slope hunt. One of the other clubs over here is having a hunt weekend after this weekend. It cost $75 to enter, but I guess they will have a lot of neat old silver and other stuff buried and lot's of prises. Seems like quite a bit for a hunt and I still haven't made up my mind whether I want to go or not. With the price of silver now days it probably wouldn't take long to get your investment back. HH.

The $75.00 entry fee isn't that bad at all when you factor in all the prizes, raffles, great food, and the great time of being around other fellow detectorists and getting to meet new friends and seeing and talking with old ones. It is a lot of fun and no matter how much you get the price of just relaxing and all the fun makes it worth while. Thanks for the response Eddie and hope you have some finds to post from your next outing. Good Luck and HH.

Sorry MrChile, I don't have an Excalibur and I haven't ever tried water detecting before. If I find some Gold, it is going to be on land so I hope I find some sometime this year other than the one found recently.
