6 silvers in the last 2 hunts

Last weekend I hurt my back while MDing and it's getting better now so I went out for a lil test run fri night to a place that I have not been back to for over a year now and when I was there last all I found was some clad. I was there for about a half hour when I get this deep signal jumping between penny & dime. I did the wiggle to get a PP and that's when I got a real faint iron grunt. I swing the coil over it a few more times and those tones were so smooth. I do another PP wiggle and there was that faint iron grunt again just before the cut off. I started to walk away and I didn't get 5 steps and I went back an dug it up. Those tones were just too damn good to pass up with out checking it out. I'm glad I did, it turned out to be a Merc 6" deep. I checked the hole after I found the Merc and there was NO iron grunt. About 15 min's later I get the same deep signal with sweet tones and that real faint iron grunt when I did the PP wiggle and it turned out to be a Rosie and no iron grunt after I get the dime out, go figure, I can't explain it, but this is not the first time this has happen to me.... The rest of the night all I found was some more clad. I did not expect to be finding silver at this place because I did not think it was old enough to produce silver. I guess I need to do a lil more research on this place..

Today I went to check out something I saw Thur while working in this town. there was a old house jacked up and wheels under it and the house next to it looked like they were going to demo it. i went to the car lot next to the houses and asked them about it. They bought the houses and were expanding their car lot so I asked if I could MD the yard,,, sure, no problem, sweeeet.

I start in the yard where the house is going to be demo'ed. I'm getting ready and I look up and their is all kinds of power lines running down this side of the street, great... I turn on the Mder and it's non stop chatter. I checked all 5 noise channels and it's chattering bad in all 5 channels. I put it in Patt 1 and that helped a lil but I was chasing false signals for the 3 hours it took me to do that front yard. If it wasn't for the bad EMI I could of did that yard in half the time it took me to do it. I'm glad their was not much trash in this yard because I had no clue as to what I was digging, the numbers were all over the place and the tones were real bad too thanks to the EMI I was having to deal with. But I ended up doing pretty good in that first yard. I found a 1911 Barber dime, a Merc, '2" rosies, "2" IH's, '6' wheat's, a Sterling ring with a bunch of junk stones, another junk ring, 2 lipstick tubes and the best find of the day was a vintage Chevrolet Junior safety Patrol badge from 1936. I found on that was sold on ebay and I guess it's kind a rare.

The second yard was really small and I only found one wheat in that yard

Mark, that turned out to be a good "little" hunt, thanks for the info on the faint iron signals, I've had that happen before, thanks for sharing, HH

Mark, Thanks for the info on the iron grunts when wiggling the coil. Which coil were you using? I bought the 9", 3khz coil and use it all the time. Maybe it gives better signals than the standard 7.5khz coil, as Old Long Hair says it does. I will have to do more digging of deep grunt signals to see what it is, but so far they were deep small iron nails.

jabbo, I use the 10.5 DD 7.5 Khz coil.

It's hard to explain but it's a real faint iron grunt, it's not like the normal solid iron grunt. I've run in to this a few times and I only get it when I'm doing my PP wiggle, not when I'm doing a normal swing over the target.

Nice finds Mark! I'm new to the Xterra 705, but not new to ML. I have the 6" LF Digger coil, 5x10 HF and 9" CC MF. I will have it say it's as good as the Etrac with the X-5 coil, without all the added weight or too many settings to worry with! I love the prospecting mode on the 705, it sounds really close to the audio of a GPX and have found the iron reject to be identical to the GPX machine. So far I've only practiced around in my 2 acre yard and test bed while reading Diggers X-Terra book. I definitely think the 705 is at the top of mid range machines I've used!

Really nice hunts !! i rarely ever have EMI problems with the 705 so I was surpprised by your post. Looks like you still got some nice finds though. The Barber looks very nice !!

When I first started out my favorite coin to find was a merc. I still think it's a really nice coin but I'd much rather find a Barber now.
