Hello, I am new here and I have only been detecting for about 4 years. I have owned just about every brand of machine except bounty hunter, but I've really only owned lower end like f2, Coinmaster, compadre, delta 4000 and others. Last year I bought an AT Pro and the smaller 5x8 coil. I've liked it but I've wanted a deeper machine.
I had not considered the 705 until a buddy called saying he needed money fast. He sold me his barely used 705 gold, a like new Pro pointer and a Lesche for $360. I felt bad but he named his price and would not take more. I don't love the PP (I already have2) after I bought the TRX pointer, but my kids can use it.
Anyways, I did air tests comparing the ATPro and the 705 and they seemed similar but the AT was an inch or so deeper and the ATPro could pick up a gold chain the 705 wouldn't in coin mode, but tonight I hit a local park and in dirt I think that the 705 with the 18 kHz coil seems deep on coins in the ground than the 5x8 inch DD Garrett but I'm not really sure.
So here are my questions:
1. Do any of you use the higher frequency gold DD 705 coin for coin and relic hunting?
2. Am I giving up a lot of depth with this coil in coin mode compared to the 9 inch concentric coil (I don't have)?
3. Do the VDI reading differ on the 18 kHz coil than the lower frequency coils?
4. Is it worth it to buy and which coil should I get?
I was actually very pleased tonight with the 705! The backlit screen is awesome! I was also very happy with the trash separation as I think it is comparable to my ATPro. I love the tones and the adjustability over the ATPro. The pinpoint is spot on, and it swings so easy. It seems a bit slower than the Garrett but not bad at all.
I found a 1919s wheat down almost 5 inches and $4.58 in two hours which I feel is good for my first time out with it!
Sorry for my long winded first post! Thanks for any advise you have.
