705 or 705 Gold Pack

Darrel

New member
I just purchased a new 705 from an ebay seller. I wanted to do prospecting and general hunting. I thought that the only difference was the coil, but now read that the two 705's are programed differently. I purchased the 705, how much will I lose by not having the gold pack when I do prospecting.

Thanks
Darrel

Where did you read that?? Really, I want to know.
AFAIK whomever put that into print is full of it. There is NO difference in the unit's programming between the Standard and the Gold Pack 705's.

Both of them are the same detector, they are both programed with the same firmware / settings, the only difference is that the Gold Pack comes with a different coil.

That both are the same is what I wanted to here. I went back to the minelab catalog and reread after I submitted this posting. Looks like I used the wrong word. The word configured in lieu of programed. I guess I'm the one full of it. I'm guessing that would mean a different coil for gold. Again, that is just what I wanted to hear.

Thanks

For coin hunting and general detecting you will want the gold pack to get the better coil, IMO. We have 4 of these in the family and only 1 is a non-gold pack, the stock coil from the non-gold pack is used very rarely.

Oh, sorry. I was about to blow a gasket if someone was out there spreading false information.

The only difference between the two is that the Gold Pack cones with a 5x10" 18.75kHz DD coil, and the Standard comes with a 9" 7.5kHz concentric coil. The cost to purchase either "configuration" is the same.
For Prospecting the 5x10" DD HF or the 6" DD HF coil is what you would want anyway, not to mention what HotRod said about the Gold Pack coil costing more than the Standard coil if purchased separately, making it a better buy.
