705 or At Pro

Im sure several people ask this question but I need some opinions all would be very appreciated also I hunt parks and houses thanks and HH

I have used an Xterra 70 ( have a 705 coming tomorrow:bouncy:) and had all three coils. The obvious advantage is the fact that the Xterra is not limited to one frequency. Change the coil, change the frequency, hunt everything. Also, the display is much bigger and for my almost 50 year-old eyes, this is a blessing. Get a 705 , learn the manual, and then download Randy Horton's e-book from the Minelab site. Study the e-book and you won't look back. I only sold my 70 due to personal reasons and I am going right back to Minelab again.I had bought the 70 used, very late in the season(practiced a lot with it) so I put a lot of time into reading/learning the manual and Randy's e-book over that winter. The following spring, I found 4 rings in three outings. The X-terra is really the only machine that I felt "at one" with. I will hit the ground running
as soon as this 705 gets unpacked and assembled. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Thank you for your comment I like the idea of hearing different tones I mainly coin shoot so I think im leaning towards the 705 but still need a little push lol HH

I thought a lot about the ATP. Like the waterproof feature but, at the dealers I really didn't like the grunts that iron gave off. The 705 sounds are pleasant compared to the ATP.

The 705 is a lot smoother running, deeper machine and with the right coil set up, such as the 3 kHz "Digger" Coiltek coil, will ferret out coins in iron just as well as the AT will as far as depth, well.....

I have both and although I have only had the 705 for a short time I would choose it over my AT Pro. Yes I have found some great stuff with the Pro but the 705 is just a joy to use and it just seems to pull targets from places where the Pro never did. I'd say the only advantage the Pro has over the 705 is that it is waterproof.

Thanks guys I wish I could test drive both just to see which one I'd prefer lol

705 has much better balance and tone. definitely the better coin/park hunter for sure.

ATP has faster recovery and features that make it, in general, a better relic hunter.

I have ATP and Explorer SE Pro right now. I had planned 705 and ATP as they complement each other well. I had to part with the 705 to jump on explorer deal so I can try it out but I plan on getting a 705 back as soon as possible.

I have a 705, and it and the AT Pro are both good machines from what I've seen and read. Much of it will come down to preferences and aesthetics, but from my limited use at the local hobby store, I really didn't like the squaky, annoying sounds of the ATP nor the smaller display. The 705 is just a more versitile and pleasant-to-use machine.

The only reason I'd buy the ATP over the 705 would be if I needed a completely waterproof metal detector, which I personally don't. (I don't dive underwater nor hunt during biblical rainfalls.) With the waterproof coils I have for the 705, the only thing that can't get wet is the control box anyway; it's fine for creeks and the edges of lakes.

Time to take a trip to Kellyco. We have em on display and will definitely get you a great idea of how they will work in our little test yard.

Honestly, using both....and being biased as possible, both machines are great. The AT Pro has the waterproof advantage while the 705 has the 3 frequencies/salt and gold prospecting modes (I say that cause the AT Pro is able to go in salt water while the AT Gold will prospect gold but will not go in salt water.)

The 705 has a coil from Coiltek that can get deeper than the AT Pro can with the Coiltek 15" WOT coil. Both machines have a decent choice of coils.

You shouldn't be wrong with either machine, but since you posted in the X-terra section, you have people that will favor the 705, I will say I own a 705 as well...but I wont say anything else. Everyone will have an opinion just as I won't drive a Ford over a Chevy. So take it as you will.

Gotta disagree on the ATP being the better relic machine. I've has both and the ATP is ok in iron, but if you slow down with the 705, even with the 10.5DD coils, it will spank the Garrett. I've dug buttons at crazy depths in beds of nails with that combo..............MO

I'm not a salt water hunter,, but i DOUBT going in salt water with the AT Pro is gonna work for you... Just my opinion..

I thought the at pro performance was great, just couldn't take the sounds anymore.the 705 is much nicer on my ears and performance is equel if not better.

Oh I know, it is able to go in the salt, I never said it was great at it. You will still be falsing all over the place if the waves are heavy.Just saying the ground balance on the AT Pro is more powerful than a machine that can only handle the wet sand like the 305/505. Much harder to get in the salt over the 705. But yes, I agree, I did not itterate that the AT Pro was not a prime salt detector, but it is better than some of the other cheaper ground balanced models.

I use X-terra 705,AT Pro International and E-Trac.
Some days I'm just an AT pro man, that will be in pasture, woods,or fields, because the 15 kHz picks up the small items very well´,and its fast, and deep.In my opinion its deeper then the X-terra,but the sound is terrible. The lack of threshold and backlited display are features I really mis on the Garrett.
In a park, nothing beats the E-trac with its superb discrimination, way better then the most, well except from the CTX then :)

Recently I have been an X-terra dude, due to the balance with "5 by 10" elliptical coil. It is the best setup for my fields, specially now when its stubble. A closed coil works much better then a open design...in my words..
But this is all individual of course. Just my two cents or what you say over there in the states :)

/Mike
