705 problem

I've been having problems with the 705 for the past month. It will not go into tracking mode for one thing, and just recently it will not go to AM mode unless I hit the pinpoint/detect button.
When I turn it on it powers up in pattern 1 and works fine, but when I hit AM it goes to the pinpoint/detect screen and will not leave this mode unless I turn it off and back on. I can hit the PP/Detect button after turning it on and it will, most of the time, go into AM and work for a few minutes, but will go to PP/Detect screen on its own and no matter what button I push I get an error sound and remain on the PP/Detect screen till I turn it off and back on. After about 10/20 minutes of hunting I can hit AM and it works fine till I'm done hunting.

I believe it is a circuit problem and think all this salt air from 3 years of beach hunting is most likely the cause. My 3 year warranty expires at the end of this year. I have to send it in anyways to get the added 2 year warranty that Kco offered when I bought it. I will keep using it till summer ends or it fails beyond use, then back to ML.

I suspect that you're right about it being a circuitry issue, but for snicks I'd do a factory reset just because.

My x70 had the the same problem, had a bad keypad.I sent it it to Minelab, they replaced it for $35.00 plus a hour labor good as new

OLH, I tried it all, new batteries, reset, changed coil................................Song remains the same.
Pulltaber, thanks for relating your experience. I would hope their will be no out of pocket expense on my part other than shipping. My experience with ML has been #1 when it comes to service....glad they treated you well.

The simple stuff is always worth a shot. Too bad it isn't that easy this time.
FWIW, I've been hearing 1 week turnaround from Minelab lately.

Have you swiched on,and removed batteries whilst it's on?
