It depends on what you are hunting and what your ground is like and what coil you use. I have dug civil war three ringers 69. caliber s at about a foot with the 10.5 dd 7.5 coil and the 9 inch 18.75 coil. My grouns is in the 50's though. I dig coins in the 6 and 7 inch range but after that coins will sometimes give negative numbers on the id and so will civil war bullets .
